Consumer stocks soar past Nvidia's 12% gain: Cracker Barrel up 130%, Cheesecake Factory doubles

Cracker Barrel, Cheesecake Factory, Victoria's Secret, CarMax, and Airbnb have all outperformed Nvidia this year, posting gains between 38% and 130% compared to the chip giant's 12% rise. Cracker Barrel has surged 130%, fuelled by improved sales trends, cost improvements, and strategic changes under new CEO David Deno. Cheesecake Factory stock has more than doubled, driven by strong performance from its Fox Restaurant Concepts brands, particularly Flower Child, which posted 21% sales growth in Q2. CarMax has gained over 65%, supported by stronger sales and cost cuts. The consumer stocks' gains eclipse Nvidia's more modest 2026 performance despite the chipmaker projecting 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028.

Cheesecake Factory momentum status hints at deeper shift in earnings power

The Cheesecake Factory has been flagged as a momentum stock by Zacks, driven by positive earnings estimate revisions and favourable analyst sentiment. This reflects growing confidence in the company's operational improvements and demand trends across its restaurant concepts. The momentum is partly tied to the launch of a refreshed Cheesecake Rewards app with a free slice offer. Analysts expect this loyalty programme and digital engagement to boost visit frequency and check size, supporting higher unit economics. However, risks remain. The company faces pressure from shifting dining habits, mall exposure, and rising labour costs. Off-premise and digital-first competitors could limit traffic growth. Projections vary widely. The company's narrative forecasts £4.8 billion revenue and £334.2 million earnings by 2029, requiring 7.4% annual revenue growth. Lower-ranked analysts project only 5.8% annual growth to roughly £4.5 billion revenue and £263 million earnings by 2029.

Cheesecake Factory hits $1B quarterly revenue with value-focused strategy as stock surges 123%

The Cheesecake Factory has posted record quarterly revenue exceeding $1 billion for the first time, whilst comparable sales and traffic grow during a period when many restaurant chains struggle with stagnant growth. The chain's success stems from focusing on value and convenience. It offers an expansive menu with budget-friendly options and generous portions, giving customers reason to return as they move away from pricier dining. The company recently launched a rewards programme showing high engagement amongst members. Its restaurants are located in high-traffic areas, with mall locations gaining popularity with Gen Z consumers. Management targets younger crowds through social media and digital efforts.
