Responsibilities
  • Feature Oversight and Delivery: Take full accountability for specific ADAS features, ensuring on-time delivery and alignment with agreed-upon specifications. Monitor the feature’s lifecycle from concept to production, addressing any deviations promptly.
  • Technical Collaboration and Hands-on Engagement: Collaborate with feature group owners and engineering teams to create feature specifications. Engage actively with the teams throughout feature development, providing early feedback, participating in testing, and supporting validation processes.
  • Customer Advocacy and Alignment: Deeply understand OEM customer needs and requirements, representing their interests internally without compromising Wayve’s objectives. Harmonise OEM requests across different customers to maximise the development of reusable assets and ensure scalability.
  • Cross-functional Communication and Coordination: Serve as the central liaison between OEMs, product teams, and engineering teams for your feature(s). Facilitate streamlined communication and reduce misunderstandings. Participate in agile processes and rituals.
  • Risk Mitigation and Strategic Alignment: Proactively identify and address potential issues before they escalate. Maintain and evolve the strategic feature roadmap as our technology progresses towards higher autonomy levels, ensuring alignment with both customer expectations and Wayve’s strategic objectives.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience Shipping ADAS Features into Production: Demonstrated success in delivering complete ADAS features into large-scale production automotive programs.
  • Knowledge of Automotive Quality and Safety Standards: Good understanding of automotive quality and safety standards (ASPICE, SOTIF, FuSa, …) as well as the compliance regime around them (GSR-II, DCAS, …)
  • Experience with machine learning, LLMs and recent generative AI methods and architectures

This week on Autonomy Markets, Grayson Brulte and Walter Piecyk discuss Waymo's California regulatory moat, Cybercab's pending commercial launch and Uber's string of supervised launches in the UK and Europe. In California, Waymo is completing 1.4 million fully autonomous rides per month, a 10X growth rate over two years. Additionally, the CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) granted Waymo commercial driverless expansion authority across 40,000 square miles, covering roughly 25 million California residents and giving Waymo an estimated two-year regulatory moat over competitors. Waymo also opened service to all riders in Houston, its 10th market, with San Antonio likely to follow, and launched the Zeekr-built Ojai to all riders across San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix while introducing its own custom silicon chip to boost compute performance and drive down vehicle costs. While Waymo continues to scale, Tesla is preparing for a Cybercab commercial launch in Austin following first-responder training sessions with local fire departments. Then there is Uber, which is focused on expanding globally. In Dubai, Baidu's Apollo Go went live on the Uber app, allowing riders to explicitly select an autonomous ride or be assigned one when booking Comfort or UberX. In London, Wayve and Uber launched early trip access using supervised Ford Mach-E vehicles, though debate remains over who will secure the critical Autonomous Passenger Service (APS) permit. Are robot taxis coming to London?

Are robot taxis coming to London? A company called Wayve, based in the UK, has created computer technology that helps cars understand the road around them, meaning they can drive themselves. Recently, Transport for London (TfL) gave special licences to a group of these cars to be used as taxis. A human is still in charge. Even though these cars can steer, brake, and spot other vehicles using cameras, radar, and computers, there will still be a human driver sitting behind the wheel. The driver must be ready to take over at any moment and is responsible for keeping everyone safe. Before these taxis can drive without a human in the car, they will need another special approval from safety experts. How do robot taxis "see"? Instead of using eyes as Bridge Classic Cars do, these cars use lots of technology. They have: * Cameras on the roof and mirrors to watch what's happening all around them. * Radar sensors that can detect other cars, people, and objects, even in bad weather. * A smart computer powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which helps the car decide what to do next. When can people ride in one? Uber says that some people who signed up to try these robot taxis could get a ride later this summer. More public journeys are expected after that if everything goes well. The taxis are actually electric Ford Mustang Mach-E cars that have been specially modified with all the extra technology. Why is this important? Supporters believe self-driving cars could make roads: * Safer by reducing human mistakes. * Cleaner because these vehicles are electric. * Quieter, with less engine noise. However, not everyone is excited. Some human taxi drivers are worried that self-driving technology could mean fewer driving jobs in the future. A british invention. Wayve was started in 2017 by two students studying for their PhDs at the University of Cambridge. If everything goes to plan, London will become the first city in the world where Wayve's technology is used for commercial taxi journeys. Nest plans to allocate up to £1bn to venture capital by 2030. By Callum Conway Nest has launched a £200m dedicated venture capital (VC) sleeve with Schroders Capital, and plans to invest up to £1bn in VC by 2030, as it looks to increase its exposure to late-stage, high-growth private companies. The pension scheme said the allocation, made on behalf of its 14 million members, will incorporate existing venture investments and provide fresh capital for new late-stage VC opportunities. Nest noted the allocation could rise to around £1bn by 2030, subject to the availability of high-quality investment opportunities, with a strong focus on UK-based unlisted companies. The new sleeve will be tailored and managed by Schroders Capital, building on Nest's existing private markets strategy and its investments in growth-stage companies since 2022. Examples of UK companies Schroders Capital has already invested in on behalf of Nest, which will sit within the new VC portfolio, include autonomous driving AI software company Wayve and AI video creation firm Synthesia. Nest said the new VC sleeve supports its wider ambition to grow private markets exposure to up to 30 per cent by 2030, and forms part of its broader aim to enhance long-term returns through greater diversification, while also supporting UK innovation. Nest Invest chief executive officer, Mark Fawcett OBE, said: "As Nest has grown, we have continued to evolve our investment approach, opening up new investment opportunities for our members. "We are delighted to expand this approach further into venture capital, providing injections of cash that growing businesses need to scale.
