Requirements
  • A master's degree from an accredited graduate program in a relevant field of study, including behavioral health fields such as social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or counseling.
  • A valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, a U.S. territory, or commonwealth.
  • Less than two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competency with Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphone or tablet applications, and video-conferencing platforms.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children, respond quickly to emergent situations, and work across indoor, outdoor, rugged, uneven, and varied military-installation or school environments.
  • Ability to comply with site-specific requirements, including required immunizations or vaccinations when applicable.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship and fluency in English.
  • Ability to develop trusting helping relationships and work with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries clearance, Installation Records Check, Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check.
  • A valid U.S. state vehicle operator's license is required; a U.S. military vehicle operator's permit may also be required for temporary-duty locations.
Responsibilities
  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused, walk-around counseling to eligible service members and family members, including assessment, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referrals, resource linkage, and follow-up.
  • Provide Military and Family Life Counselor consultation and counseling services to command structures, military service members, and their families.
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations and participate in health fairs and other installation activities.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application while maintaining client and service-member confidentiality.
  • Maintain visibility within the brigade or regiment and establish working relationships with community resources and installation points of contact.
  • Provide responses to critical incidents, surge and on-demand events, and special requests, adjusting the schedule as needed.
  • Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol and staff cases with regional supervisors or directors.
  • Communicate with regional supervisors and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing installation trends and issues.
  • Participate in in-service training, quality-improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned.
  • Participate in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs, including certification and training, activity documentation, integration into non-medical counseling work, and required technology use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
