Requirements
  • Be currently enrolled in and pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in an IT- or engineering-related major, such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Software Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Must not graduate before August 2027.
  • Live within a reasonable commuting distance of the designated Duke Energy facility for the hybrid schedule and have reliable, consistent transportation to arrive on time.
  • Be able to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Gain hands-on experience securing operational technology environments that support the electric grid.
  • Gain exposure to substation cybersecurity, cyber asset management, vulnerability management, patching, compliance, risk management, incident response, and cybersecurity program governance.
  • Support initiatives including asset inventory reconciliation, cybersecurity assessments, technology deployments, process improvement, and data analysis.
  • Work alongside cybersecurity analysts, engineers, and operations personnel.
Desired Qualifications
  • Have previous internship experience.
  • Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Have knowledge of programming languages, operating systems, and computer networks.
  • Be familiar with Angular or another JavaScript-based framework, Java, Python, and private or public cloud environments such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Azure, or AWS.
  • Have knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles.
  • Be familiar with Linux, Windows, Active Directory, Infrastructure as Code, networking, and data center infrastructure.
  • Be familiar with relational databases and SQL query authoring.
  • Be familiar with the Agile methodology.

Duke Energy cuts Eastern NC and Asheville rate increase from 15.1% to 9.3%

Duke Energy Progress has agreed to reduce its proposed rate increase for customers in eastern North Carolina and the Asheville area from 15.1% to 9.3% over two years. The average residential customer will pay an additional $9.62 per month starting January, plus $5.89 more beginning January 2028. The settlement also caps Duke's return on equity at 9.8%. This follows significant pushback from state leaders and customers after Duke Energy reported $5 billion in profits in 2025 and over $1 billion in net income last quarter. The North Carolina Utilities Commission will review the proposal starting 11 August, with a final decision expected this autumn. Duke Energy Carolinas previously lowered its rate increase to 9.5%. Both Duke utilities will merge into one by 1 January 2026.
