About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering is required.
  • At least five years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, drawing creation, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is required.
  • Applicants must not require employment immigration sponsorship or support now or in the future.
  • Applicants must qualify as U.S. persons under ITAR: U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, political asylees, or refugees.
  • Applicants must currently reside within 50 miles of the Glenolden, Pennsylvania facility; active-duty military service member candidates are exempt.
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical design principles is required.
  • Strong product design ability for both new products and product modifications is required.
  • Knowledge of engineering report and specification writing is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of product applications, product design techniques, engineering processes, and engineering standards is required.
  • Candidates must be able to develop conclusions from analyses and apply results to support project team activities.
  • Candidates must be able to explain and discuss drawings, engineering analyses, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering solutions that meet customer performance, interface, reliability, cost, and schedule requirements; work with customers to define explicit, unambiguous requirements; and provide technical direction for assigned projects from concept through product delivery.
  • Develop concept layouts, models, detailed drawings, drawing releases, and changes in the configuration control system for mechanical and electromechanical systems; ensure compliance with quality system requirements.
  • Establish technical requirements for fabricated and procured components; select materials, finishes, processes, dimensions, and GD&T to meet design intent; collaborate with manufacturing and quality engineers, customers, and suppliers; and visit suppliers and customers as required.
  • Perform mechanical design tasks for cast, machined, plastic, metal, and additively manufactured components; collaborate with manufacturing and external suppliers to optimize design decisions; design electromechanical sensor packaging; and create CAD component models, assemblies, bills of materials, and production drawings.
  • Work with other teams to perform structural static and dynamic analyses, thermal analyses, fluid dynamics analyses, and other engineering analyses to verify compliance.
  • Manage and release drawings, models, and documentation through the product lifecycle management system.
  • Develop design verification and validation test plans and provide support in the testing environment.
  • Implement product improvement and cost-reduction initiatives by evaluating engineering change requests.
  • Support sales and marketing with proposal generation and responses to customer inquiries.
  • Design fluid-flow products and fixturing, substantiating design choices with fluid mechanics concepts.
  • Design, build, and test engineering prototypes for proposals and internal research and development projects.
  • Develop product designs using layouts, modeling, and drawing creation with CATIA V5, Creo, and AutoCAD, and manage product release configuration using Enovia.
  • Use appropriate analysis, trade studies, and legacy product similarities to substantiate design decisions; apply Phase-Gate product development strategies across concept development, design, validation, production, and delivery.
  • Support mechanical and electrical product-line design activities through sustaining product support and alternative design approaches and processes, taking market trends and best practices into account.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal peers, and prepare design approvals in an organized and detail-oriented manner.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Desired Qualifications

  • Aerospace, automotive, electronics, or medical-device industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with electromechanical design and printed circuit board (PCB) design is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in seal design, material assessment, and design for manufacturability is preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, product testing, stress analysis, magnetic properties, fluid dynamics, and thermal analysis is preferred.
