About the job

Requirements
  • Shipped a real physical product that you designed into medium-to-high-volume production.
Responsibilities
  • Own the robot's industrial design, including form, materials, surface treatment, and color, and shepherd design intent through design for manufacturing, supplier reviews, and into production parts.
  • Build Deft's brand from scratch, including visual identity, design system, pitch decks, website, trade show presence, and demo videos.
  • Design operator-facing user experience for robot monitoring and control, optimized for noisy factory environments.
  • Collaborate daily with engineers on mechanical, electrical, and software teams as a creative partner.
  • Lay the design foundation, including tools and workflows, and eventually a team, as Deft scales.

About the company

Deft Robotics provides robotics systems integration and deployment services for manufacturers, pairing wheeled humanoid robot hardware with engineering, integration, and ROI planning. Its offering brings humanoid platforms to production floors, coordinating hardware procurement, integration work, and deployment processes so robots can perform tasks on real plants. Unlike pure robot makers, Deft acts as an end-to-end integrator that sources equipment and manages ROI and workflow to ensure productive deployment. The goal is to automate factory and industrial work with measurable returns by deploying wheeled humanoid robots on real production lines.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • February 2026 seed backing from Rainfall Ventures and SpringCamp validates investor interest.
  • Deft lists Simba at $34,900 with two-week lead time, enabling fast sales.
  • September 2026 claims 96.77% placement success and 54.2-second cycle time on tasks.

What critics are saying

  • Two paid contracts in September 2026 still leave no scaled production proof.
  • Deft's software is beta, so integration failures can cripple plant deployments.
  • If pilots miss six-to-nine-month ROI, manufacturers cancel and Deft's runway ends.

What makes Deft AI unique

  • Deft sells wheeled humanoid workcells, not standalone robots, for factory integration.
  • Its September 2026 storefront pairs hardware, ROI analysis, and deployment support.
  • Ex-Tesla and Hyundai talent targets automotive plants needing production-ready automation.

SF-based Deft Robotics raises seed funding from Rainfall Ventures and Springcamp

San Francisco-based Deft Robotics has raised an undisclosed seed round from Rainfall Ventures and Springcamp. The startup develops AI-powered humanoid robots for manufacturing automation, targeting the challenging "last 20%" of production processes. Co-founded by CEO Shin-hee Lee and CTO Jeong-won Shin, Deft Robotics focuses on drop-in automation workcells for automotive and electronics manufacturers. The company's robots use AI-based perception and learning to handle non-routine tasks requiring human judgement, such as cable insertion and flexible assembly. The technology employs teleoperation for initial training, with humans controlling robots remotely whilst the system learns from accumulated data. Lee previously worked at Tesla in hardware engineering, whilst Shin developed autonomous driving systems at Hyundai and Motional. The company is currently conducting pilot projects with global automotive and electronics manufacturers.
