Requirements
  • The employee must complete and maintain all necessary trainings required by the program and position and comply with YAI policies and licensing regulations.
  • The employee must complete and maintain Behavior Analyst Certification Board requirements for Registered Behavior Technician certification.
  • The employee must comply with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • The employee must have or develop specialized clinical knowledge for person-specific needs, including supporting adults, challenging behaviors, autism spectrum disorders, and complex medical needs.
Responsibilities
  • The employee is responsible for the overall supervision, protection, and care of the individual at all times, including maintaining house rules, facilitating fire-safety learning and training, and identifying and appropriately escalating signs of potential harm to self or others.
  • The employee provides support in a variety of settings according to each person's individualized service and behavior support plans, using support skills for people with moderate to complex levels of need.
  • The employee ensures health, wellness, and safety by providing appropriate supervision and managing crisis situations while adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • The employee ensures implementation of protective-oversight plans, Individual Behavior Support Plans, and Individualized Program Plans for all people supported.
  • The employee maintains a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment and uses safe and appropriate handling procedures when working with individuals.
  • The employee assists individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, upholding personal rights, providing emotional support, and building positive relationships.
  • The employee supports people in meeting personal quality-of-life goals, uses respectful person-first communication, encourages socializing, and facilitates activities that provide social capital and community connections.
  • The employee implements person-centered plans and assists with personal care, activities of daily living, medication administration according to guidelines, skill development, advocacy, communication, dispute resolution, ethical decision-making, meal preparation, transportation and escorts, purchases, and safeguarding personal funds.
  • The employee reviews communication logs daily and records events, progress notes, services, and other information; collects and enters operational data using an electronic health record.
  • The employee completes required paperwork and documentation accurately and on time for compliance or billing, including notifications, logs, incident reports, file updates, maintenance requests, phone calls, incident tracking, and evening and weekend reports.
  • The employee maintains a therapeutic environment using Personal Outcome Measures, Person-Centered Thinking, Informed Decision Making, and Trauma-Informed Approaches.
  • The employee works as a member of the circle of support, provides feedback, communicates programmatic needs, and maintains a solution-oriented approach during conflicts.
  • The employee consults with program leadership, clinical staff, and other direct-support staff and attends and actively participates in team meetings.
  • The employee uses foundational and progressive teaching skills, including EMOE, task analysis, essential skills, supports, and modifications.
  • Under appropriate supervision, the employee participates in treatment-plan development, implements Behavior Support Plans, collects, records, and summarizes data on observable behavior, observes and reports behavioral changes or other signs and symptoms, and communicates individual progress to authorized representatives as instructed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • The employee performs other assigned duties.

Yai's Manhattan Star Academy (MSA) is a private, non-profit day school within the YAI Network that serves students aged 3 to 21 with developmental disabilities. It combines academics with therapies (occupational, physical, speech, counseling) in a Montessori-inspired, developmentally based curriculum, using small classes and sensory-friendly facilities with technology to track progress. The school includes a transition and vocational program to prepare students for life after graduation. Its differentiators are the integrated therapeutic model, a specialized environment for neuro-developmental needs, and a continuous education path from early years through post-secondary readiness.
