Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years of related experience with a university degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering, or 5 years of relevant experience and an advanced degree.
  • Expertise in medical device standards including ISO 14971, IEC 60601, IEC 62304, ISO 80002-1, and FDA Design Controls.
  • Previous experience with risk-based verification and validation, process validation, and limit or challenge testing is required.
  • Ability to navigate quality systems with minimal oversight on individual projects.
  • Ability to make balanced risk decisions to drive product quality, gain consensus, and work through technical challenges.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with minimal oversight and articulate complex information to teams, including executive management.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to planning and executing design controls, risk management, and design verification and validation for new products.
  • Participate in and support development of the product design history file, ensuring compliance with internal processes and external standards and regulations.
  • Understand user needs and ensure they are translated into the design while complying with usability and human factors standards and regulations.
  • Partner with engineering to define design inputs, design outputs, and traceability matrices.
  • Contribute to the strategy and execution of risk-based design verification and validation.
  • Participate in and support development of the product risk management file, analyzing and assessing product risks associated with users, design, process, and suppliers.
  • Ensure reliable and scalable designs are transferred to manufacturing.
  • Review design architectures, selections, requirements, and drawings from early design stages.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing, test engineering, and supplier engineering to facilitate transfer of scalable designs into production.
  • Assist in supplier selection, qualification, certification, and performance improvement.
  • Contribute to new product development technical reviews and design reviews.
  • Support Regulatory Affairs in creating submissions and responding to submission questions.
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation and direct interaction with auditors.
  • Support continuous improvement in design control and risk management quality processes and methodologies.

Intuitive leases 316,000-sq-ft facility in Penang to manufacture surgical instruments, create 1,200 jobs by 2032

Intuitive, the global leader in minimally invasive care and pioneer of robotic-assisted surgery, has signed a lease agreement with Penang Development Corporation for a new manufacturing facility in Malaysia. The 316,000-square-foot site in Bandar Cassia Technology Park will produce surgical instruments and electromechanical devices for Intuitive's da Vinci surgical system. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 and create 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. The investment reflects Intuitive's commitment to Asia Pacific, where its da Vinci systems have treated more than 2.5 million patients across 13 markets over two decades. The expansion aims to support growing demand for robotic-assisted surgery across the region and strengthen Penang's position as a MedTech manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
