Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology or Diagnostic Imaging program is required.
- A State of Florida license as a General Radiographer is required.
- CPR and Basic Life Support certification are required.
- Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and certification in the primary modality are required, or certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Applicants must follow applicable Joint Commission, Agency for Health Care Administration, American College of Radiology, Florida Department of Health, and Food and Drug Administration/Mammography Quality Standards Act guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and examine Mammography scan orders, verify that they are appropriate, and resolve discrepancies with supervisors or physicians’ offices.
- Identify patient service requirements and verify patient identity using the electronic medical record and wristband.
- Obtain necessary consents and provide patient education.
- Operate Mammography scanners and related equipment according to radiation safety procedures and age-appropriate standards of practice.
- Integrate diagnostic and laboratory results, patient history, and medical records to adapt examinations as necessary.
- Follow Mammography protocols and perform Mammography scans competently.
- Position patients appropriately for Mammography scans using immobilization and protective equipment when necessary.
- Maintain aseptic technique and follow universal precautions, including hand hygiene and use of protective equipment.
- Assist radiologists with imaging and interventional Mammography procedures, including starting intravenous lines, injecting contrast, and operating power injectors.
- Evaluate scans for technical quality, sequence processed images, label images appropriately, and transmit them to the picture archiving and communication system.
- Charge procedures and supplies in UChart and Radiant and maintain accurate patient records.
- Reduce patient anxiety by explaining treatment and answering questions.
- Provide age-specific and developmental care to children, adolescents, adults, geriatric patients, and challenged or disabled patients.
- Perform basic nursing functions such as assisting with bedpans and emesis basins.
- Address patients’ physical and psychological needs during scanning procedures, initiate life support measures when necessary, assist with Code Blue procedures, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
- Keep the work area clean and sanitary and stock examination and dressing rooms with required supplies.
- Report unusual findings promptly to the appropriate radiologist or supervisory personnel.
- Schedule patients and assist with clerical functions.
- Provide orientation and training to new Mammography technologists and education and training to student technologists.
- Follow hospital and department human resources policies.
- Assist with day-to-day departmental operations.
Desired Qualifications
- One year of relevant experience is preferred.
