Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher, Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required for Experienced Registered Nurses.
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or higher must enroll in an appropriate Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact registered nurse licensure to practice in North Carolina is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in delivering nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and seek appropriate assistance or educational offerings as part of professional development.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities.
  • Document assessments, plans of care, interventions, evaluations, and re-evaluations of patient status.
  • Assess nursing needs of acutely and chronically ill patients and independently seek appropriate resources.
  • Educate patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, visitors, the healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
  • Provide professional nursing services to patients and families within the scope of a registered nurse as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
