About the job

Requirements
  • Strong understanding of hardware Bills of Materials, component sourcing, supplier lead times, and production planning.
  • Experience navigating component availability, substitutions, lifecycle issues, and long-lead components with electronics suppliers.
  • Fluent understanding of engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, datasheets, and other technical documentation.
  • Strong project management skills to manage schedules, dependencies, risks, and priorities across multiple simultaneous hardware programs.
  • Hands-on experience building or maintaining custom hardware, manufacturing equipment, test fixtures, robotics, mechatronics, or automation systems.
  • Ability to work with electrical and mechanical systems and debug real-world hardware.
  • Ability to use standard engineering and diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench tools.
Responsibilities
  • Own day-to-day operational communication with suppliers across Tier 1 contract manufacturers and Tier 2 and Tier 3 component and sub-component suppliers.
  • Coordinate with electrical engineering representatives, component vendors, distributors, and manufacturers to resolve electronics sourcing, availability, lead-time, and substitution issues.
  • Maintain visibility into material availability, purchase timing, supplier lead times, manufacturing schedules, and dependencies required to keep production running.
  • Identify supply constraints and schedule risks early and drive them to resolution with suppliers and internal engineering teams.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing suppliers while identifying new vendors and alternate sources as program requirements evolve.
  • Create, maintain, and manage production Bills of Materials across multiple hardware programs.
  • Track component revisions, approved alternates, sourcing status, lead times, and engineering changes throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Maintain visibility into program schedules, material dependencies, engineering dependencies, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Translate supplier and manufacturing constraints into actionable schedules and priorities for the engineering team.
  • Communicate program status, blockers, critical dependencies, and required decisions across electrical, mechanical, firmware, operations, and manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Coordinate engineering changes with contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure changes are implemented correctly without disrupting production.
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain custom hardware automation used throughout production and manufacturing operations.
  • Develop automated test equipment, assembly fixtures, programming stations, sensor systems, and purpose-built production tooling.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, motors, microcontrollers, electrical systems, and mechanical components into production equipment.
  • Work alongside electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software engineers to develop solutions to manufacturing and production challenges.
  • Write and maintain scripts, firmware, and software used to control production equipment, automate testing, collect production data, and diagnose failures.
  • Maintain and improve production automation infrastructure as products, processes, and production volumes evolve.
  • Troubleshoot production equipment and manufacturing issues on the production floor, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Python, C/C++, microcontrollers, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and component suppliers.
  • Experience owning material planning or supply-chain execution for multiple simultaneous hardware programs.
  • Experience working directly with electronics distributors, semiconductor manufacturers, and electrical component suppliers.
  • Experience managing multi-level Bills of Materials and approved vendor or manufacturer lists.
  • Experience taking hardware products from prototype through pilot builds and volume manufacturing.
  • Experience designing and deploying automated test equipment or custom production fixtures.
  • A track record of building hardware, robotics, CNC equipment, test systems, or other electromechanical projects.

About the company

REEKON Tools designs and manufactures measuring tools for professionals in construction, carpentry, and fabrication. Its flagship product, the M1 Caliber, attaches to almost any saw fence and uses a large backlit LCD to provide precise material measurements, reducing manual measuring and marking. The device delivers accuracy of 0.02 inches (0.5 mm) and can be up to three times faster than traditional methods. The company differentiates itself by combining modern technology and new materials with traditional fabrication tools to enhance speed, functionality, safety, and workflow, rather than relying on conventional designs. It mostly sells directly through its website and may partner with retailers and distributors to expand reach. The goal is to improve productivity and measurement accuracy for professionals by offering reliable, fast measuring tools that streamline workflows across construction, carpentry, and fabrication.

What believers are saying

  • The Boston Globe said REEKON has raised over $4.7 million through Kickstarter and sales.
  • The company reported 3,461 backers and $411,434 for T1M Utility in 2025.
  • Hiring across manufacturing, firmware, supply chain, and growth signals active expansion in Boston.

What critics are saying

  • Kickstarter dependence leaves REEKON exposed if preorder demand drops after September 2026.
  • T1R Range preorders and refunds before shipping create cancellation risk and cash timing pressure.
  • A single product miss could stall the company, since hardware delays quickly damage trust.

What makes REEKON Tools unique

  • REEKON sells connected measuring tools, not commodity tape measures, with software and hardware integration.
  • The 2025 T1M Utility and 2026 T1R Range expand from measurement into workflow systems.
  • Founders control REEKON without venture backing, keeping product direction tightly aligned.
