Requirements
  • One accepted laboratory credential must be obtained post-hire within one year: American Association of Bioanalyst MT(AAB), American Medical Technologist MT(AMT), American Society for Clinical Pathology MT(ASCP) or MB(ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel CLS(NCA), or an equivalent categorical registration in blood banking, chemistry, cytometry, hematology, medical laboratory science, microbiology, or molecular biology from the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and the chemical processes and transformations they undergo.
  • Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, including their tissues, cells, functions, interactions, and relationship with the environment.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to analyze, verify, and manipulate clinical and laboratory data.
  • Ability to work safely around biohazardous conditions, blood-borne pathogens, radiation, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to perform work requiring precise quantity and quality measurements and the listed physical activities, including occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct clinical laboratory tests and analyses in hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis.
  • Analyze biological material samples for chemical content or reaction.
  • Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components.
  • Cultivate and isolate microbial organisms, assist in identifying them, and conduct tests on them.
  • Obtain, cut, stain, and mount biological material on slides for microscopic study and diagnosis.
  • Select and prepare specimens and media for cell culture using aseptic technique.
  • Study blood samples to determine cell counts, cell morphology, blood group type, and compatibility for transfusion purposes.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment used for quantitative and qualitative analysis, including spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, and computer-controlled analyzers.
  • Promote safety, environmental, and infection-control practices.
