Regions Financial posts $870M pre-tax pre-provision income as it backs deposits and tech over M&A

Regions Financial (NYSE:RF) reported adjusted pre-tax pre-provision income of $870 million for the third quarter of 2026, it said on an earnings call on October 16, 2026. The bank is growing low-cost deposits, including non-interest-bearing accounts, to protect its net interest margin. It is also running a multiyear, cloud-based overhaul of its deposit platform, which chief executive officer John Turner Jr. called "one of the most significant technology investments in our company's history." Regions is not pursuing depository acquisitions. It plans to win middle market commercial clients organically instead. Treasurer Anil D. Chadha said yields on newly originated fixed-rate assets were about 100 basis points higher than on maturing ones.

Regions' Hurricane Isaias relief offers goodwill, but revenue stuck at $1.91B tests the investment case

Regions Bank has launched disaster-recovery financial services for customers hit by Hurricane Isaias in the Florida Panhandle and South Alabama. The package includes loan assistance, payment relief, fee waivers, interest rate discounts, and mortgage disaster-relief programmes. Analysts see the move as good for the bank's brand and customer relationships, but limited in its near-term effect on revenue. Regions Financial reported a flat quarter at $1.91 billion in revenue, and fee income remains a risk. The bank also declared quarterly cash dividends on common and preferred stock. Simply Wall St's narrative projects revenue of $8.9 billion and earnings of $2.4 billion by 2029, up from $2.1 billion today. It puts fair value at $32.03 per share, 19% above the current price.
