Requirements
  • Pursuing a degree program at an accredited college or university, with at least two years of completed education, in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to work in the construction industry and learn construction safety functions.
  • Ability to crawl, climb, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, crouch, stand for long periods, lift and hold more than 50 pounds, and work in confined spaces or at extreme heights.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Ability to travel and access to reliable transportation.
  • Must attend a two-day orientation at the corporate headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama.
  • Must be available for the full internship period from May 17 through August 6, 2027.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning, implementing, and supervising project safety guidelines and ensuring accident and fire protection programs comply with the corporate safety program on the assigned project.
  • Assist with conducting daily safety inspections of active work areas and documenting the inspections.
  • Assist field staff with safety issues, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assist with conducting initial safety orientation sessions for new hires.
  • Assist with monitoring housekeeping practices to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Shadow the Safety Manager as a construction safety liaison with the owner and subcontractors.
  • Assist with preparing and submitting required safety-related reports.
  • Assist with conducting post-accident and property damage investigations.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Safety Manager.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration construction course.
