  • At least 7 years of experience leading project design, preferably in the building of large generator power stations and substations.
  • Direct experience in high- and medium-voltage substation design.
  • Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70/National Electrical Code, NESC, NETA, OSHA, and utility standards.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes with local authorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30%.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
Responsibilities
  • Establish the electrical design basis, scope boundaries, interface matrix, deliverable register, design schedule, and technical risk register; identify and close scope gaps across owners, EPC contractors, utilities, consultants, and equipment suppliers.
  • Review electrical design packages, including single-line and three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and grounding and lightning-protection designs.
  • Create or technically evaluate specifications for major equipment, including transformers, high- and medium-voltage switchgear, disconnect switches, power cables, CTs/VTs, metering and protection relays, and UPS systems.
  • Coordinate electrical interfaces with natural-gas engine-generator OEMs, including alternator ratings, neutral grounding, excitation/AVR, governor and synchronizing controls, generator protection, starting systems, plant auxiliaries, black-start or islanding requirements, and CHP interfaces where applicable.
  • Review load-flow, short-circuit, protection-coordination, grounding, arc-flash, and cable-ampacity studies; ensure study assumptions remain aligned with the issued-for-construction design.
  • Manage utility interconnection requirements, including point-of-interconnection design, revenue metering, communications, and relay settings.
  • Review EPC and vendor drawings, calculations, equipment data sheets, test plans, FAT/SAT reports, deviations, and technical submittals; provide clear dispositions and maintain design configuration control.
  • Support procurement through equipment specifications, technical bid evaluations, supplier selection, and vendor-document review.
  • Provide construction engineering support, respond to RFIs and field changes, participate in site walkdowns, and verify that installations conform to the design, applicable codes, and approved quality plans.
  • Plan and support substation energization, generator synchronization, commissioning, and turnover, including test procedures, protection and control testing, punch-list closure, and coordination with utilities, commissioning agents, and plant operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience with natural-gas reciprocating-engine power plants, CHP facilities, or distributed generation is strongly preferred.
  • PE certification or equivalent is preferred.

About the company

Energy Vault provides utility-scale energy storage solutions using gravity-based storage and also sells batteries. Its gravity battery stores energy by lifting heavy blocks to higher elevations to create potential energy, while its Energy Management Systems software monitors, controls, and optimizes dispatch across assets. It differentiates itself by pairing gravity storage with EMS software and pursuing a licensing model with large partners to enable global, large-scale deployments, alongside a battery product line. Its goal is to lower the levelized cost of energy and improve grid reliability for utilities, independent power producers, and large industrial users.

What believers are saying

  • September 2026 Goshe acquisition added 2.3 GW and 350 MW ready-to-build U.S. BESS.
  • Stoney Creek reached land ownership, with Q1 2027 construction and $25-$30 million annual revenue.
  • June-September 2026 deals with Rolls-Royce, 2G Energy, and Italy accelerated hyperscale and utility demand.

What critics are saying

  • Debt rose to $243 million by Q2 2026, while cash-funded buildouts still require financing.
  • Most 2026 backlog converts over 12-18 months; any execution miss hits revenue and credibility.
  • Energy Vault's pivot to AI power depends on large projects, making a stalled campus pipeline existential.

What makes Energy Vault unique

  • Energy Vault pairs gravity storage with batteries, engines, and VaultOS across 2026 projects.
  • Asset Vault owns and operates long-duration assets, not just selling equipment into one-off deals.
  • Its AI power platform targets hyperscale campuses with integrated speed-to-power and dispatchability.
