Stäubli targets medical device automation at Galway trade show. August 14, 2026 Stäubli Robotics will showcase automation technologies for medical device manufacturing at Medical Technology Ireland 2026, taking place on September 23-24 at Galway Racecourse. The company will present robotic solutions designed for applications ranging from assembly and machining to inspection, injection molding and material handling, with particular emphasis on systems capable of operating under the hygiene and regulatory requirements of medical manufacturing. Automation is becoming increasingly important as manufacturers contend with higher production volumes alongside tighter traceability and quality requirements, according to Stäubli. "In the medical world, the rising demand for single-use devices like surgical staplers, which require precise assembly and testing, increasingly involves automation and robotics to meet high production volumes and stringent medical device requirements," said Sébastien Lagarde, Global Leader, Life Robotics at Stäubli Robotics. Robots deployed in medical applications can also be required to withstand intensive cleaning and decontamination procedures, making machine design and compatibility with controlled production environments important considerations. Stäubli said it has worked with OEMs and system integrators in medical technology for almost four decades. Its portfolio includes hygienic and cleanroom-ready four- and six-axis robots covering a range of payload capacities, as well as models developed specifically for life science and aseptic applications. The company will also highlight its Access series, which is intended to provide a lower-cost entry point for medical device automation while retaining the performance characteristics of its wider robotics portfolio. Stäubli holds ISO 13485 certification for medical-device quality management systems. The company said its documented processes and quality controls can help manufacturers reduce the validation work required when integrating automation into regulated production environments. For applications requiring flexible material movement, Stäubli also offers mobile robotic systems including platform automated guided vehicles, autonomous forklifts and its Sterimove system, which the company describes as the first mobile robot compatible with Grade A/B environments. Among the applications illustrating Stäubli's medical technology capabilities is a production cell developed jointly by MGA Technologies and Infiplast. The system uses a TS2-60 SCARA robot alongside a TX2-90 six-axis robot for the manufacture of medical filters. The company said greater automation can help medical device manufacturers improve throughput and process consistency while reducing human error and supporting real-time production data collection. Flexible robotic manufacturing is also becoming increasingly relevant as manufacturers move towards more personalized medical products and shorter or more varied production runs. Visitors to Medical Technology Ireland will be able to see Stäubli's medical manufacturing automation technologies during the two-day event in Galway.
