About the Job

Requirements

  • Be an engineering student specializing in process engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, or a general engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrate rigor, reliability, teamwork, versatility, communication skills, motivation, analytical thinking, and synthesis skills.
  • Be comfortable communicating vertically and cross-functionally.
  • Have an interest in field work.
  • Be proficient with office tools and have a good level of Excel; VBA or Python skills are desirable.
  • Have professional-level English.

Responsibilities

  • After onboarding, report to the Process Engineer and lead a site material-balance study to locate, quantify, and explain the creation of fines under 7 mm, then propose source-reduction actions.
  • Define the study scope by reviewing process documentation, discovering the industrial operations, identifying flows in the field, selecting sampling points, and inventorying metrology equipment.
  • Conduct autonomous, paired laboratory sampling and analyses, including normative sampling according to EN 932-1, sieve-size analysis according to EN 933-1, moisture testing, loss on ignition / CO₂ analysis according to EN 459-2, and friability testing.
  • Quantify the flow rates of each stream using scales and full-belt sampling, with known uncertainties, through successive measurement campaigns covering pilot, reference, and stone/fuel comparisons.
  • Interpret and model the material balance for each workshop, identify mechanisms creating fines such as handling, decrepitation, and native fines, reconcile findings with monthly production balances, and produce a quantified map and prioritized action plan.
  • Manage the project by facilitating progress meetings, planning measurement campaigns with production, maintaining a single data spreadsheet and a log of issues and decisions, and coordinating the team.
  • Work daily in a pair for sampling and analyses, with support from a production reference person and/or a junior Process Engineer for interventions in production areas; do not work alone in production areas.
  • Complete site training in applicable quality, safety, and environmental procedures.

Desired Qualifications

  • VBA or Python skills would be an advantage.
