Requirements
  • Familiarity with assigned work, safety hazards, work-related tools and equipment, and plant operations or construction jobsite settings.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds; perform sedentary to heavy work; climb and balance on frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds; and traverse uneven terrain and multi-floor buildings without an elevator.
  • Ability to use hands frequently to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects, and perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, overhead reaching, squatting, sitting, and standing.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, and maintain close and distance vision and adjust focus.
  • Ability to drive cars and trucks as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, supervision, and field workers, including reading and writing comprehension for directions and safety policies.
  • Ability to use math and complete calculations, work at various tempos, concentrate amid distractions, make decisions, remember and examine details, and observe details.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Familiarity with concrete mix designs and the curing process.
  • Advanced knowledge of the quality control process as it pertains to the check-out process.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate civil construction crews performing earthworks, concrete, drainage, storm water, and structural work.
  • Supervise and set direction for Foremen and Leadmen on-site to ensure effective use of company resources and adherence to company policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Provide formal coaching feedback to Foremen.
  • Schedule equipment, materials, and tools to maximize production, minimize costs, and effectively utilize resources in collaboration with the Civil Superintendent.
  • Manage, coach, and train employees; implement standardized work plans; and assist the Civil Superintendent with process improvement efforts.
  • Manage and maintain responsibility for safe working conditions and safety procedures for the project and specific discipline.
  • Understand and enforce company, jobsite-specific, federal, and state safety regulations, and address concerns with the Civil Superintendent.
  • Be accountable for project construction activities and communicate expectations to craftsmen, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain labor and equipment production records and compare production to the estimate.
  • Communicate cost overruns and company-resource utilization to the Civil Superintendent.
  • Mentor Foremen on production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain and update crew and equipment matrices.
  • Hold crew members and Foremen accountable for company and project rules.
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures and best practices are followed.
  • Conduct weekly and quarterly safety and quality audits.
  • Receive permits supporting the work being performed.
