PowerGen Renewable Energy develops, builds, and operates solar-powered mini-grids across Africa to provide reliable, affordable electricity to off-grid households, micro-businesses, and small enterprises. Its micro-grids act like a private utility, delivering 24/7 AC power through pay‑as‑you‑go pricing and using smart metering, dynamic tariffs, and real-time analytics to optimize reliability and cost. The company has expanded into productive-use programs such as e-mobility, electric cooking, and cold storage, and grew its assets by acquiring Rafiki Power in 2019. Backed by investors including Shell New Energies, Omidyar Network, and the African Development Bank, its goal is to connect over a million people with clean energy in the coming years.

All On has invested $5m in PowerGen Renewable Energy Nigeria Limited to expand renewable energy access across Nigeria. The mezzanine investment will support development of isolated and interconnected mini-grid projects serving households and commercial customers. The investment is expected to support up to 6,000 electricity connections, reaching an estimated 41,000 beneficiaries. It will also deliver up to 9 MW of generation capacity and contribute to creating approximately 470 jobs across served communities. PowerGen operates renewable energy projects across four African countries. In Nigeria, the company developed the Toto Community Mini Grid Project in Nasarawa State, which became Nigeria's first interconnected hybrid solar mini-grid. The funding closes PowerGen's Series C capital raise alongside investments from ElectriFI, Impact Fund Denmark, SEFA and InfraCo.
