About the job
- Have at least 10 years of experience in engineering and be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- Have at least 5 years of expertise in façade safety for buildings of five or more storeys.
- Alternatively, have other training and diplomas relevant to the assignment.
- Review the documents provided for each building.
- Visit the buildings to be inspected to assess their condition, access constraints to the façades, required permits, and site conditions.
- Prepare an intervention schedule and communicate it, promptly reporting any changes.
- Conduct visual inspections of façades.
- Conduct close-range detailed inspections of all façades.
- Provide suitable lifting systems for inspections.
- Conduct tactile checks and exploratory openings; obtain prior authorization for exploratory openings under canopies, balconies, or other protective elements.
- Pay for public-road occupancy permits when required.
- Prepare instructions to protect the public in urgent situations.
- Install fencing and protective measures when required to conduct inspections.
- Prepare inspection reports, including standard findings sheets.
- Submit findings by Uniformat component in electronic Excel (.xls) format.
- Provide records of observed conditions with sketches, photographs, and annotated elevations that precisely locate building defects.
- Categorize defects and recommend corrective measures.
- Provide quantities and/or areas that accurately reflect the scope of proposed interventions, with usable locations and measurements.
- Provide realistic cost estimates for correcting defects.
- Restore components and the site after completing inspections.
- Arrange cleanup and repairs to exterior landscaping following inspection operations.
- Submit a paper and electronic copy of the report for each residence.
- Conduct verification visits after remedial work.
- Issue a letter certifying that each building’s façades are safe.
