About the job

Requirements
  • Have 3–5 years of industry experience building machine learning systems, including at least 2 years focused on computer vision.
  • Have a BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Have strong Python skills and hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow for training and debugging deep learning models.
  • Have shipped at least one computer vision model to production and be able to explain the trade-offs made.
  • Have a solid grasp of convolutional neural network and transformer architectures for detection, segmentation, and classification.
  • Have experience with OpenCV and image/video processing, including decoding streams, preprocessing, and augmentation.
  • Have working knowledge of model optimization for inference, such as ONNX, TensorRT, and quantization or similar techniques.
  • Be comfortable with Docker, Git, Linux, and training on GPUs in a cloud environment such as AWS or Azure.
  • Have sound machine learning fundamentals, including loss functions, overfitting, class imbalance, evaluation metrics, and experiment design.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including explaining model behavior to non-machine-learning stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Design, train, and fine-tune models for object detection, classification, segmentation, tracking, and anomaly detection on customer video and images.
  • Adapt pretrained and foundation models, including YOLO-family detectors, vision transformers, CLIP-style models, and vision-language models, to new customer use cases with limited labeled data.
  • Own data pipelines end to end, including curation, labeling guidelines, augmentation, synthetic data, and dataset versioning.
  • Optimize models for production and edge hardware using quantization, pruning, distillation, ONNX export, and TensorRT while meeting agreed latency and accuracy targets.
  • Build evaluation suites with clear metrics, including mean average precision, precision/recall, and false-alarm rates per camera-hour, and catch regressions before release.
  • Deploy and monitor models in production, diagnose drift and failure cases, and close the loop with retraining.
  • Work with product, solutions engineers, and customers to turn vague requirements into measurable model specifications.
  • Write clean, tested, reviewed code and contribute to shared machine-learning tooling.
  • Collaborate with machine-learning engineers on the collection, processing, and maintenance of high-quality datasets for training and testing.
  • Implement computer vision algorithms to improve system accuracy and performance in real-world scenarios.
  • Work with the solutions engineering team to integrate machine-learning models into the broader product and systems.
  • Travel on-site sometimes to see deployment environments, test technology in real-world settings, and ensure it is operating as expected.
  • Regularly evaluate computer vision model performance using qualitative and quantitative methods, and iterate to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Apply developments in machine learning and computer vision to solve complex challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Address and troubleshoot complex problems during development and deployment of computer vision systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with vision-language models such as CLIP or LLaVA-style models, or with open-vocabulary detection.
  • Experience with multi-object tracking and video analytics, including re-identification, action recognition, and temporal models.
  • Experience with few-shot learning, active learning, or synthetic data generation for low-data domains.
  • Experience with MLOps tooling such as MLflow or Weights & Biases, Kubernetes, Triton Inference Server, or CI/CD for models.
  • Domain experience in healthcare, retail and supply chain, manufacturing inspection, workplace safety, or video surveillance.

About the company

Chooch provides an automated hospital inventory management platform that uses fixed cameras to continuously monitor supply rooms, closets, and PAR locations. As items are removed or restocked, on-hand counts update automatically and when inventory drops below PAR, replenishment orders are generated and sent to the ERP without any manual counting, barcode scanning, or staff intervention. This helps hospitals reduce stockouts, optimize inventory levels, cut storage footprint, and boost supply chain staff productivity by freeing them to focus on patient care. The system aims to turn supply rooms into a self-running part of operations, preventing rush orders and emergency freight by catching low inventory before a crisis occurs.
