Job Description
Job Purpose:
The K2 Developer is a specialized workflow automation engineer responsible for designing, building, configuring, and maintaining enterprise-grade business process applications using the K2 product suite (K2 Five / K2 Cloud / Nintex Automation). This role transforms manual, paper-based, or fragmented workflows into streamlined, automated digital applications. The
position collaborates with business analysts and IT teams to implement data models, user
interfaces, and automated workflows that improve organizational efficiency, governance, and
system connectivity.
Duties & Responsibilities
K2 Application Architecture & Design
• Workflow Modeling: Translate complex business process maps into functional K2
automated workflows, utilizing advanced rules, inline functions, and conditional routing
logic.
• Smart Forms Development: Design high-fidelity, responsive user interfaces using K2
Smart Forms, incorporating custom views, controls, validation rules, and expressions.
• Smart Objects Integration: Create and configure reusable K2 Smart Objects to establish
secure data handshakes between K2 applications and external databases or SaaS
platforms.
Integration & Core Engineering
• API & System Integration: Connect K2 workflows with core enterprise ecosystems (e.g.,
SharePoint, SAP, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics) via REST/SOAP Web Services and custom Service Brokers.
• Database Programming: Write, optimize, and maintain underlying SQL Server database
components, including stored procedures, views, and complex triggers tied to K2
processes.
• Custom Code Extension: Author custom .NET/C# code snippets, custom assembly
brokers, or custom Smart Forms controls to extend K2 platform capabilities when out-of-
the-box features fall short.
Maintenance, Administration & Optimization
• Platform Administration: Troubleshoot failed workflow instances, manage server logs,
configure environmental string fields, and handle package deployments using K2
Management and K2 Package & Deployment.
• Performance Tuning: Audit and refactor inefficient Smart Object queries and deeply nested Smart Form rules to minimize server-side processing times and form load latches.
• Technical Documentation: Create and update Technical Design Documents (TDD),
environment migration playbooks, and structural data dictionaries for all custom K2 builds
Accountabilities
Workflow Reliability: Ensure all deployed K2 process instances execute with a high
success rate, managing error loops and unexpected workflow stalls within internal SLAs.
Deployment Accuracy: Guarantee smooth, defect-free package migrations across
Development, QA, and Production environments without disrupting active system
processes.
Data and Security Compliance: Apply proper K2 environment role privileges and Active
Directory / Entra ID permission policies to safeguard sensitive corporate transaction data. Sprint Commitment: Complete assigned configuration requests, form changes, and
workflow integrations within established Agile project timelines.
Key Interfaces: Internal:
Business Analysts & Process Owners: Collaborating closely to analyze Process Definition Documents (PDD) and turn manual requirements into automated technical designs.
Database Administrators (DBAs) & IT Infrastructure: Coordinating on SQL server access permissions, Active Directory organization groups, and core server configurations.
Quality Assurance (QA) Teams: Resolving reported application bugs and supporting user acceptance testing (UAT) cycles with business consumers
External:
• Nintex / K2 Vendor Support: Escalating platform-level bugs, requesting software hotfixes, and keeping tabs on modern feature releases
