Requirements
  • A Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A current North Carolina Physician Assistant-Certified or Nurse Practitioner license is required.
  • Completion of residency training is required.
  • At least one year of experience in a primary care setting functioning at the full extent of training and licensure is required.
  • A minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a clinical setting is required.
  • A strong commitment to practicing in a community health setting is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain complete medical histories from patients, families, and previous medical records.
  • Prescribe medications according to therapeutic goals and explain treatment to patients and families.
  • Develop and assist with patient and family therapeutic and educational plans to promote satisfactory patient outcomes.
  • Teach and counsel individuals and families to assume responsibility for illness prevention and the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.
  • Consult with physicians and other health care team members as necessary.
  • Refer patients requiring hospitalization or assessment and management of conditions to supervising physicians or appropriate specialists, and follow patients’ progress with physicians.
  • Maintain patient records in compliance with required standards, review records regularly, and obtain physician countersignatures where necessary.
  • Attend medical staff meetings and participate in the health center’s quality improvement and quality assurance program.
  • Formulate, initiate, and monitor patient management plans using protocols or consultation with a supervising physician.
  • Perform routine procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Perform other necessary duties assigned by the health center to provide primary health care services.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer, or Board of Directors.
