Requirements
  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Current New York State licensure as a Certified Radiologic Technologist is required upon hire.
  • Radiography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with continuing-education credits is required upon hire.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mammographic examinations by following and verifying referring providers' orders and complying with Imaging Sciences department requirements and governing-body standards.
  • Scan patients safely and efficiently, complete associated paper and computer documentation, and discharge patients with appropriate post-mammography instructions.
  • Complete orientation to departmental infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures, and routines.
  • Identify patient service requirements.
  • Educate patients and families regarding the procedure or treatment to be performed.
  • Prepare patients for radiological, mammographic, and ultrasound-guided procedures.
  • Produce high-quality images and prepare and present them, along with pertinent patient information, for timely interpretation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and maintain the production and quality of mammographic images while following established standards, orders, protocols, and procedures.
  • Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by practicing radiation-protection techniques, including ALARA, patient shielding, and use of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls.
  • Assist leadership with quality-assurance and quality-control tests and documentation to ensure compliance with Mammography Quality Standards Act and Food and Drug Administration standards.
