  • Principal level: 15+ years with a demonstrated track record of leading the technical direction of multiple high-volume sensor-based products.
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of CMOS image sensors and end-to-end camera systems, including the trade-offs that drive camera selection: resolution, pixel size, quantum efficiency, signal-to-noise ratio, high dynamic range, and rolling versus global shutter.
  • Strong understanding of optics fundamentals, including field of view, focal length, F-number, depth of field, distortion, and lens/sensor matching.
  • Knowledge of image signal processing, including demosaic, auto exposure, auto white balance, autofocus, denoise, tone-mapping, color correction, lens shading, and ISP tuning for target use cases.
  • Knowledge of camera interfaces: MIPI CSI-2, D-PHY, C-PHY, parallel RGB, and RAW pipelines, including timing, lane allocation, signal integrity, and bring-up.
  • Experience designing illumination/lighting subsystems for cameras, including visible, infrared, near-infrared, and synchronized strobes.
  • Knowledge of time-of-flight sensors, including iToF and dToF principles, modulation schemes, multipath and ambient-light mitigation, and depth accuracy characterization.
  • Knowledge of millimeter-wave radar for object detection, including FMCW radar fundamentals, antenna arrays, range/Doppler/angle estimation, and board- and system-level radar module integration.
  • Knowledge of thermal cameras, including microbolometer-based LWIR sensors, NUC, thermal calibration, and integration trade-offs.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, MEMS, and solid-state LiDAR architectures and their electrical/interface requirements.
  • Strong fundamentals in analog and digital design, schematic capture, PCB layout review, power delivery, and signal integrity for high-speed interfaces.
  • Hands-on lab debug skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and optical/imaging test equipment.
  • Experience taking products through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production and resolving production issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to drive alignment across hardware, firmware, machine learning, and product stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Architect end-to-end imaging and sensing subsystems, including camera selection, optics interface, illumination, and electrical integration, to meet product-level performance, power, and cost targets.
  • Drive camera and sensor selection across CMOS image sensors, time-of-flight sensors, millimeter-wave radar, LiDAR, and thermal modules by evaluating resolution, field of view, sensitivity, dynamic range, frame rate, latency, and size, weight, and power.
  • Own the camera signal chain, including ISP tuning and configuration, RAW/RGB pipelines, MIPI CSI-2 and parallel RGB interfaces, and characterization across lighting, temperature, and motion conditions.
  • Lead sensor fusion hardware design combining cameras, depth sensors, radar, and LiDAR for perception and object-detection workloads.
  • Define lighting and illumination strategies for active and passive imaging, including infrared illuminators, structured light, and synchronized strobe designs.
  • Specify and review schematics, layouts, and bills of materials for sensor boards, flex cables, connectors, and power-delivery networks; ensure signal integrity and EMI/EMC compliance for high-speed interfaces.
  • Develop characterization and validation plans using lab measurements with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and optical benches, as well as statistical bring-up and qualification methodologies.
  • Collaborate with firmware/embedded, computer-vision/machine-learning, mechanical, optical, and manufacturing engineering teams to drive designs from prototype through DVT, PVT, and mass production.
  • Mentor and influence engineers across the organization, review designs, set best practices, and represent electrical engineering in architectural decisions.
  • Engage with external vendors and partners, including sensor suppliers, module houses, and ODMs, to evaluate roadmaps, negotiate specifications, and resolve technical issues.
  • Within 6 months, become the go-to technical authority for sensor and imaging subsystems and deliver a clear technical roadmap for the imaging stack.
  • Within 12 months, lead the electrical architecture of at least one major sensor-driven product or platform release.
  • On an ongoing basis, raise the engineering bar through design reviews, mentorship, and reusable architectures that scale across product lines.
Desired Qualifications
  • NVIDIA platform experience with Jetson (Orin, Xavier), DRIVE, or other NVIDIA SoC/GPU platforms used for camera and perception workloads.
  • Exposure to other high-end GPU/accelerator platforms such as Qualcomm, Ambarella, AMD, or comparable platforms for vision and edge AI inference.
  • Familiarity with FPGA-based sensor interfacing, bridging, and prototyping using Xilinx/AMD, Intel/Altera, or Lattice; embedded HDL coding is not required, and architectural and integration-level understanding is sufficient.
  • Experience with acoustic and audio hardware, including MEMS microphones, microphone arrays, 3D acoustic field capture/beamforming, and audio front-end design.
  • Experience with speaker driver/amplifier design, including Class-D amplifiers, transducer selection, and audio output subsystem integration.
  • Experience with sensor fusion software stacks, ROS, or working closely with computer-vision/machine-learning teams.
  • Published work, patents, or conference contributions in imaging, sensing, or perception.

About the company

Rhoda AI is building a two-armed humanoid robot designed as a general-purpose bimanual manipulation platform for industrial use. Its product centers on heavy-lifting and complex manipulation in factory and logistics environments, where many humanoid robots struggle. The robot combines dual arms with software and sensors that enable grasping, coordinating with both hands, and performing tasks that require strength and precision in industrial settings. Rhoda AI differentiates itself by targeting heavy-lift capabilities in robotics, a gap for many competitors, supported by a team with deep robotics and AI expertise and substantial funding. The company aims to bring commercially viable humanoid robots to industrial markets, competing with other players in factory automation and logistics robotics, with the goal of transforming how manual work is automated in manufacturing and related sectors.

What believers are saying

  • Rhoda raised $450 million in March 2026 at a $1.7 billion valuation.
  • Reuters said investors include Khosla Ventures, Temasek, Mayfield, Premji Invest, and Capricorn.
  • Rhoda says it already works with industrial partners across manufacturing and logistics.

What critics are saying

  • Tesla and Figure AI already dominate humanoid attention, hiring, and customer mindshare.
  • Internet-video training lacks guaranteed factory reliability; one failed pilot can stall deployments in 2026.
  • Without shipping revenue by 2027, Rhoda burns capital before customers trust its platform.

What makes Rhoda AI unique

  • Rhoda trains robots on millions of internet videos, not scarce teleoperation demos.
  • Jagdeep Singh, Gordon Wetzstein, and Vincent Clerc bring rare robotics, optics, and product depth.
  • Rhoda targets industrial heavy-lifting bimanual work, where dexterity and payload matter most.
