NETA Field Service Technician
About the job
- Must be able to drive daily locally or regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
- Must have at least 2 years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
- Must have good computer skills, including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Must remain drug-free and pass a pre-employment hair-follicle drug test and periodic unannounced random drug tests.
- Must pass an acceptable pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must be physically fit to crawl, climb, stand, walk, and lift up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations, and pass a fitness-for-duty physical exam.
- Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Must not currently or in the future require sponsorship to work in the United States.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Must be willing to travel at least 40%.
- All offers are conditioned on acceptable results from a background check and drug and alcohol screening.
- Travel to industrial and commercial customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems, from 480 volts to 600 kilovolts.
- Perform instrument transformer tests.
- Perform power transformer testing using methods and equipment such as Doble, TTR, and insulation resistance testing.
- Test electromechanical and solid-state relays.
- Perform cable testing using Tan Delta, power factor, VLF, and DC hipot methods.
- Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
- Test low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
- Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
- Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner when called.
- An Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls, an Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college, or similar experience and training from the military, such as Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee experience.
- NETA Certification Level I, II, III, or IV, or similar certification.
- Experience with PowerDB.
- OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, or AED training; Shermco can provide training.
