Requirements
  • An Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Kansas or a compact state is required.
  • A current Basic Life Support/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation card from an approved provider is required within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Trauma Nursing Core Course, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, and Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses credentials may be required according to department or entity policy.
  • Ability to apply the basic principles of nursing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Keyboarding and basic computer skills.
  • Multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to perform heavy work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds and constantly exerting up to 20 pounds, with standing or walking 51–75% of the day.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is verified through Form I-9 and E-Verify.
Responsibilities
  • Provide care to patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Mentor, develop, and train new staff and students.
  • Perform acts within the scope of practice defined by the applicable licensing board.
  • Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care according to unit or department competencies, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate patient needs and review and maintain a comprehensive care plan within scope of practice.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing care goals and involving patients and families in discussions about medical issues, testing, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Accurately administer and evaluate medications, manage medication orders, and deliver medications to patients in a timely manner.
  • Educate patients and families about the physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care, disease processes, symptom and pain management, and signs and symptoms of death when appropriate.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation according to health system or affiliate policy.
  • Observe patients' physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions and report changes as directed.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Protect patient information in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients, representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
