- Provide personalized one-on-one tutoring to a student with special needs in the student's home, including support with daily activities and individualized instruction based on the student's Individualized Education Plan.
- Provide individualized academic support in Business English, including helping the student understand course materials and instructions, complete assignments, and improve written and verbal communication skills.
- Break down complex assignments into smaller manageable steps and provide repeated explanations and guided practice as needed.
- Assist with homework, assignment completion, and prioritization of coursework.
- Help the student develop organizational and time-management skills using planners, checklists, visual schedules, and structured routines.
- Conduct frequent check-ins to monitor understanding, progress, and assignment completion.
- Reinforce self-advocacy skills, including asking for clarification, requesting assistance, and communicating academic needs.
- Teach practical coping strategies to manage stress, maintain focus, and build confidence in academic settings.
- Encourage independence by reinforcing positive routines and giving the student opportunities to complete tasks with less assistance.
- Incorporate real-life examples and the student's interests to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
- Communicate progress and relevant updates to the family or designated support team as appropriate.
- An active teaching credential.
- Experience supporting college students or young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
