Abbott partners with Berry Street to add nutrition coaching to Lingo.

Abbott partners with Berry Street to add nutrition coaching to Lingo. Abbott (NYSE: ABT) is teaming up with Berry Street to offer dietitian support programs to Lingo users. Wearers of the over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor can now sign up for personalized nutrition coaching linked to their data trends, and schedule virtual one-on-one appointments with registered and insurance-covered dietitians. At the same time, Berry Street users will be able to obtain monthly packs of Lingo sensors at a discount. "By partnering with Berry Street, we're combining the advanced biosensing technology of Lingo with expert nutrition guidance to help people make informed nutrition and lifestyle decisions that can support healthy habits over time," Olivier Ropars, divisional VP of Abbott's Lingo business, said in a statement. In its announcement, Abbott pointed to a research meta-analysis showing that dietitian-led medical nutrition therapy could deliver some improvements in HbA1c and fasting glucose levels in people with prediabetes, as well as in weight, cholesterol and blood pressure. This summer, Abbott also linked with Google to provide artificial intelligence-backed insights to its Lingo platform, with a multiyear agreement to integrate glucose readings in the Google Health app and provide tailored recommendations. The two will also conduct a large, real-world metabolic health study, combining CGM and wearable activity data with participant surveys and lab reports. Meanwhile, Berry Street merged with India-based digital wellness platform Healthify in August, bringing the latter's AI nutrition and metabolic health support to its network of more than 2,000 clinicians. The combined company will be co-led by Berry Street CEO Noah Kotlove and Healthify CEO Tushar Vashisht, while relying on the Berry Street brand in the U.S. and the Healthify name internationally. Berry Street's services are currently listed as in-network at more than 1,250 health plans, according to Abbott. "For too long, nutrition guidance has relied on broad recommendations that may not reflect how an individual's body actually responds to food," Kotlove said in the Abbott announcement. "The combination of continuous glucose insights and registered dietitian expertise creates a more personalized approach to nutrition. Together with Lingo, we're helping consumers move beyond guesswork and build sustainable habits rooted in a deeper understanding of their health."

"By partnering with Berry Street, we're combining the advanced biosensing technology of Lingo with expert nutrition guidance to help people make informed nutrition and lifestyle decisions that can support healthy habits over time." Published research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that registered dietitian-led nutrition therapy can improve glucose control, weight management, cholesterol levels and other cardiometabolic markers, including among people with prediabetes.[3] [4] "For too long, nutrition guidance has relied on broad recommendations that may not reflect how an individual's body actually responds to food," said Noah Kotlove, chief executive officer and co-founder of Berry Street. "The combination of continuous glucose insights and registered dietitian expertise creates a more personalized approach to nutrition. Together with Lingo, we're helping consumers move beyond guesswork and build sustainable habits rooted in a deeper understanding of their health." By understanding glucose patterns, people can better assess how daily habits affect their bodies and make choices that support energy, well-being and long-term health. Cross-Border mergers are the new funding strategy: what African founders need to know.

Cross-Border mergers are the new funding strategy: what African founders need to know. When mergers become a growth strategy: the Berry Street & Healthify story. In a move that's reshaping how health tech startups think about expansion, US-based nutrition platform Berry Street and India's Healthify have merged to create a powerhouse serving the global wellness market. The combined entity will be led by both founders - Noah Kotlove and Tushar Vashisht - as co-CEOs, signaling a new era of founder-led, collaborative growth. But here's what caught its attention at FundNaija: this merger happened at a time when GLP-1 medications (weight-loss drugs like Ozempic) are trending upwards globally. Instead of chasing a Series B or C round, these founders chose to merge, combining their user bases, technology, and market expertise to compete in a rapidly evolving space. Why this matters for founders. If you're building a health, wellness, or lifestyle startup in Africa, this merger offers three critical lessons: * Mergers can be better than funding rounds. You keep more equity, maintain founder control, and gain immediate market access without the pressure of investor timelines. * Complementary strengths win. Berry Street brought US market expertise and consumer trust; Healthify brought technology and operational scale. Together, they're stronger than apart. * Timing matters. Both founders recognized a market trend (GLP-1 adoption) and moved fast to position themselves. African founders should be equally agile when spotting opportunities. The global funding shift. Traditional venture capital rounds aren't the only path to scale anymore. Strategic mergers, partnerships, and even revenue-based financing are becoming viable alternatives - especially for founders who want to maintain control and avoid excessive dilution. For African entrepreneurs, this is particularly relevant. Rather than waiting for Series A funding that may never come, consider: Who complements your product? Which founder in your ecosystem shares your vision? Could a merger create a stronger, more competitive entity? The Berry Street-Healthify deal shows that founders who think creatively about growth - beyond the traditional venture capital playbook - are winning in today's market. What's next for your startup? Whether you're considering a merger, seeking funding, or exploring alternative growth paths, understanding your financial position is crucial. Before approaching potential partners or investors, you need clarity on your metrics, runway, and valuation. Want to check your funding readiness? Try FundNaija's free FundScore. Its tool evaluates your startup's financial health and shows you which funding options - from grants to mergers to investor rounds - are the best fit for your stage and goals. US nutrition startup Berry Street merges with India s Healthify as GLP-1 trends upwards.

US nutrition startup Berry Street merges with India s Healthify as GLP-1 trends upwards. Berry Street founder Noah Kotlove and Healthify founder Tushar Vashisht will act as co-CEOs of the new entity. U.S. nutrition startup Berry Street said on Monday it has merged with Khosla Ventures-backed Indian startup Healthify to bank on the popular trend of people turning to GLP-1 drugs to lose weight. The companies didn't disclose the financial details of the deal. A report from JP Morgan published this year suggested that over 30 million people in the U.S. will be on GLP-1 by 2030. The companies said Berry Street founder Noah Kotlove and Healthify founder Tushar Vashisht will act as co-CEOs of the new entity. In the U.S., the company will operate under the Berry Street banner, and in other markets like India, it will operate under the Healthify brand. Healthify, which has raised over $150 million in funding, per Crunchbase, offers both AI-powered and human fitness and nutritional coaching via an app. Last year, the company expanded its operations in the U.S., and also started offering GLP-1-aided programs in India. The startup claims it has so far served more than 45 million customers. "Healthify's mission has been to put a dietitian in every human's pocket. We have spent a decade proving that AI can drive life-changing outcomes at scale. Berry Street gives us the clinical backbone and the coverage infrastructure to deliver that promise to the U.S. market at a scale no one has achieved before," Healthify's CEO Vashisht said in a press release. Berry Street has a network of over 2,000 clinics and offers insurance-covered GLP-1 care. The company last year raised $50 million in a fundraising round from Northzone, Sofina, and FJ Labs. This startup also provides AI-powered nutrition coaching and meal tracking, and claims it has served over 200,000 people in collaboration with Amazon, Walmart, and other platforms. "By pairing AI with a nationwide network of expert clinicians, Healthify and Berry Street are building the platform that will redefine metabolic care, giving everyone access to daily nutrition guidance and expert dietitian advice," Khosla Ventures' founder Vinod Khosla said in a statement.
