Requirements
  • Medical degree conferred from an accredited institution.
  • Graduation from an accredited general surgery residency program.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and existing skills for minimally invasive surgery fellowship and general surgery.
Responsibilities
  • Provide care for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction patients from initial clinic evaluation through postoperative visits.
  • Take monthly general surgery call with faculty oversight and take Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Surgery call at the assigned rotation site.
  • Participate in weekly educational sessions and rotating lectures, case conferences, and journal clubs.
  • Complete simulation training and teaching opportunities, including cadaver dissections and robotic laboratory education.
  • Complete apprenticeship-style surgical training with graduated autonomy over the training year.
  • Participate in outpatient clinic activities, averaging one day per week.
  • Interpret cross-sectional imaging and perform operative planning.
  • Share inpatient duties with house staff and an advanced practice provider.
  • Cross-cover the minimally invasive surgery service in a one-in-three call rotation.
  • Diagnose and treat initial and complex recurrent abdominal wall pathology.
  • Manage complex ventral and inguinal pathology, mesh excision, and mesh-related gastrointestinal fistulae.
  • Perform open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical management.
  • Teach abdominal wall anatomy and reconstructive techniques to residents, medical students, and physician assistant students in conference and intraoperative settings.
  • Participate in clinical trials, translational studies, outcomes studies, and quality-improvement projects.
  • Complete at least one research project and submit an abstract to a surgical conference.
