- The ability to change activities and directions quickly and respond to varying assignments and business needs is required.
- The role requires lifting and carrying 31–50 pounds, lifting up to 50 pounds overhead with assistance, and frequently sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods. It occasionally requires squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, kneeling, reaching, and repetitive motion.
- The role requires working in cold freezer environments ranging from -20°C to -196°C.
- Fluent English reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension are required.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without employer sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve data discrepancies with project collaborators.
- Prepare and analyze reports from BSI to identify possible data errors.
- Verify discrepancies noted by laboratory technicians or assistants during withdrawal or inventory procedures.
- Complete investigation tasks in specimen requisitions.
- Respond to freezer alarms according to standard operating procedures.
- Monitor assigned freezers, refrigerators, and room temperatures.
- Unpack biological specimens and record pertinent information in the Incoming Shipment Batch and incoming folder.
- Create folders to house associated paperwork.
- Store specimens at appropriate temperatures according to procedures.
- Distribute shipment receipt confirmations when required by the project.
- Use Quality Control Vials to estimate the volume of frozen samples.
- Check sample-vial information against information provided by the study site.
- Scan samples into the BSI data management system.
- Correct paperwork when necessary and notify the supervisor or manager of discrepancies by generating a discrepancy report.
- Assist with the inventory of returned specimens.
- Aliquot frozen specimens using aseptic technique.
- Retrieve samples according to requisitions, standard operating procedures, and instructions.
- Perform quality-control verification of outgoing samples.
- Update the Outgoing Batch Record.
- Investigate missing specimens using BSI and hard-copy data.
- Contact receiving laboratories before shipment to confirm shipping addresses and recipient availability.
- Ship dangerous and non-dangerous goods by commercial or local courier.
- Complete applicable paperwork, including background, link-up, aliquot, return, and BSI data-collection forms.
- Perform annual competency assessments for repository staff.
- Label vials and shipping boxes.
- Perform dry-shipper quality control.
- Coordinate and execute the quarterly temporary-freezer inventory.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance for repository equipment.
- Keep current on IATA Shipping Regulations and maintain related certification and standards.
- Carry out other assigned duties and projects.
