Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • A current registered nurse license in the appropriate state is required.
  • At least two years of nursing experience are required.
  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification are required as specified by individual ambulatory surgery center policy.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patient and family needs during patient interviews to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Develop, discuss, and communicate a realistic plan of care for each patient in collaboration with the patient, family, and significant other during the preadmission process.
  • Implement medical plans of care, nursing interventions, and procedures necessary for patient care.
  • Work with the anesthesia provider to prescreen patients with health concerns by sharing laboratory results, physical assessments, and special needs before surgery.
  • Evaluate and reassess identified issues, care provided, and patient responses to meet patient and family needs and ensure quality care.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation of nursing care and communicate potential concerns to the healthcare team.
  • Follow the center's exposure control plans for blood-borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Communicate arrival times and nothing-by-mouth instructions to patients as prescribed.
  • Communicate special physician orders and ensure patient charting is completed accurately, concisely, and promptly.
  • Cross-train to preoperative and post-anesthesia care unit areas and work there when requested.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding callers' expressed needs.
  • Document all call encounters using manual or online information systems at the time of the call.
  • Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Ambulatory surgery center experience is preferred.
