Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Cytopathology or one of the biological sciences.
  • Certification as a registered Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience as a cytotechnologist.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience required.
Responsibilities
  • Provides patient‑centered service, creating a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment; communicates clearly; resolves complaints; organizes workflow for customer needs; meets/exceeds service expectations; models Service Excellence; maintains composure; supports strong service scores; and demonstrates respect for patient rights.
  • Supervises and coordinates the daily operations and specialized functions of the Cytopathology Laboratory, including prioritizing schedules, assigning duties, and ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Provides professional and administrative supervision to technical/administrative personnel; hires, trains, evaluates, recommends termination, and monitors attendance of staff.
  • Prepares, maintains, and reviews statistical reports, document control, records, and workflow changes; implements and monitors policies, procedures, protocols, and management systems for the Cytopathology Laboratory.
  • Develops and monitors Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) activities, reviews 10% of negative GYN cases, coordinates GYN Proficiency Testing, and ensures compliance with CAP, CLIA 88, and federal regulations.
  • Maintains and updates procedure manuals; assists the Director with responses to regulatory citations; oversees supply/equipment inventory; monitors equipment maintenance; and participates in short‑ and long‑term planning and budget preparation.
  • Participates in education and training, including continuing education, teaching Cytotechnology students, providing cytology in‑services to residents, and presenting technical/managerial topics.
  • Performs Cytotechnologist and specialized duties when required; provides professional, courteous communication with staff, patients, and visitors; serves as liaison as appropriate.
  • Adheres to and ensures staff compliance with University Hospital policies, including Corporate Compliance, Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, laws/regulations, and performs other related duties as assigned.
