- Completion of a New York State-accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
- Current Medical Assistant certification from the National Healthcareer Association, American Medical Technologist, American Association of Medical Assistants, or National Centers for Competency Testing is preferred.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support training and certification from the American Heart Association, completed through in-person classes, is required; virtual classes are not accepted.
- Proficiency with phlebotomy and aseptic technique is required.
- Prepare exam rooms according to protocol by disinfecting and stocking rooms and checking the day's vaccination and medication availability.
- Prepare patient charts through pre-visit planning by reviewing the next working day's schedule, identifying gaps in care, and ensuring or obtaining required mammograms, breast ultrasounds, colonoscopies, immunizations, clinical studies, and consults.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and direct patient flow for maximum efficiency.
- Collect and document patient information and clinical data, including vital signs, height and weight, allergies, active medications, chief complaint, pain screening, and current symptoms.
- Obtain additional data from patients or significant others, electrocardiogram and laboratory or diagnostic test results, and other historical data; report findings to the provider and recognize abnormal findings or changes in condition.
- Confirm and clarify written orders before implementing delegated tasks.
- Collect, prepare, and process laboratory specimens for on-site and remote-site testing; track and enter results in the medical record; perform quality control for waived testing and maintain logs.
- Perform, prepare for, and assist with in-office procedures, including electrocardiograms, Holter monitoring, and other ancillary testing.
- Perform front-office duties, including greeting patients, answering phones, and verifying insurance.
- Perform other assigned duties.
