  • Knowledge of and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, Environmental Protection Agency requirements, Joint Commission standards, and facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily general cleaning and maintenance of patient rooms, operating rooms, ancillary areas, patient-related areas, and departmental general areas according to the Environmental Services Department's ten-step cleaning system.
  • Follow isolation procedures in isolation and contact-plus rooms.
  • Detail-clean vents, fan fixtures, window tops, door frames, wall art, bumpers, furniture, and other areas as necessary.
  • Clean public areas, including lobbies, waiting rooms, restrooms, elevators, utility rooms, examination rooms, offices, stairwells, and other assigned areas.
  • Collect and replace sharps and black pharmacy-box containers in patient-care areas.
  • Document and maintain records of assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Restock supplies in assigned areas as needed.
  • Communicate information and requests to the registered nurse and/or patient care assistant.
  • Provide service to patients, staff, families, visitors, and internal and external customers.
  • Remove trash and soiled linen from assigned areas and transport them to the disposal area.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly, clean equipment, and assist with other assigned duties.
  • Operate mechanical floor equipment, including iMops, vacuums, sweepers, auto scrubbers, burnishers, and side-by-side scrubbers.
  • Clean and store equipment in assigned locations.
  • Direct visitors as necessary.
  • Collect trays from patient rooms when required.
  • Coordinate cleaning-area activities with the department coordinator as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and participate in professional growth and development.
  • Participate in the Bronson Management System by attending huddles and using its problem-solving methods.
  • Operate ultraviolet disinfection equipment, including the Surfacide UV Robot, when assigned.
  • Use the trash compactor and empty trash and linen chutes when assigned.
  • Collect, label, and organize biomedical waste for pickup by the waste hauler.
  • Collect, transport, and take recycling to the compactor or commingled dumpster.
  • Transport waste to the appropriate compactor or outside dumpster.
  • Change privacy curtains where needed.
  • Round, inspect, and maintain assigned laboratory, office, restroom, waiting, patient-procedure, stairwell, receiving, storage, EVS, biomedical-storage, recycling, and elevator areas.
  • Properly use and maintain assigned floor-care machinery, including auto scrubbers, corded and battery-powered vacuums, iMops, burnishers, and side-by-side scrubbers.
