Responsibilities
  • Promote collaborative relationships among providers, professional nurses, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care, primarily for breast medical oncology patients in the ambulatory clinic, with possible cross-coverage across solid tumor malignancies.
  • Perform and record patient histories and physical examinations, discuss findings with the collaborating team, coordinate laboratory results, and document clinical findings, orders, nursing instructions, and other required elements in the electronic medical record.
  • Use advanced-practice knowledge to identify, prevent, or solve complex or recurring breast oncology patient-care problems.
  • Follow and manage patients in collaboration with physicians to enhance continuity of care.
  • Perform or oversee specialized procedures for the medical oncology population as agreed with the collaborating physician; obtain procedural proficiency as needed, with training provided.
  • Collaborate with staff and physicians to develop comprehensive care plans, coordinate resources, write appropriate orders, improve access to care, establish patient-care delivery goals, participate in clinical research, and manage communications among physicians, patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize complex medication interactions.
  • Coordinate diagnostic procedures in a timely manner with services such as radiology, facilitate clinic appointments, communicate test results to patients, and provide team coverage.
  • Educate patients about medical oncology issues associated with local or systemic therapy.
  • Interpret radiology, pathology, and laboratory results.
  • Manage the complex medical needs of cancer patients, including patients with advanced malignancy or organ dysfunction.
  • Write orders, including antineoplastic orders, in accordance with current guidelines.
  • Practice in accordance with state and hospital regulations and applicable practice guidelines.
  • Provide consultation to nurses and physicians and serve as a resource to staff in areas of expertise.
  • Serve on appropriate intra- and inter-departmental committees and collaborate with healthcare professionals to meet staff and patient education needs.
  • Participate in developing formal and informal educational programs for nursing and support staff.
  • Monitor patient outcomes against defined standards of care and identify system-wide factors contributing to undesirable outcomes, such as complications and overutilization of services.
  • Support and conduct research to advance knowledge and promote research-based practice; identify patient-care and health-delivery problems for investigation; evaluate research findings for applicability to clinical specialty practice; and assist nursing and medical colleagues with research efforts.
  • Evaluate personal practice and program effectiveness; maintain required credentials and position-specific educational requirements; identify learning needs and goals; participate in leadership, committees, and task forces within patient-care services and the hospital; and update clinical knowledge and skills based on current practice and research.
  • Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to the designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, or procedural settings.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests; develop care and follow-up plans based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical-examination findings; and document care in admission and progress notes, procedure and operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Perform appropriate bedside procedures and order medications and write prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of advanced-practice and medical oncology experience is preferred.
  • Prior oncology registered-nurse experience is preferred for nurse practitioner applicants.
  • Proficiency with Epic and electronic medical records is preferred.
  • Epic In-Basket management and telemedicine experience are preferred.
  • Familiarity with clinical trials is preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (Massachusetts) credential is preferred.
  • Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Massachusetts) credential is preferred for nurse practitioner applicants.
  • Physician Assistant (Massachusetts) credential is preferred for physician assistant applicants.
  • Experience as a nurse practitioner of 0–1 year is preferred.

Mass General Brigham postpones annual summit after nurses plan picket over $2.3B hospital system refusing fair contracts

Mass General Brigham has postponed its annual summit after nurses and clinicians represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association issued a picket notice for the 7 October event in Somerville. The postponement follows a 93% strike authorisation vote by Brigham and Women's Hospital nurses and protests against MGB executives. MGB nurses and clinicians have been campaigning against the hospital system following strikes and a lockout in July. Brigham nurses are seeking contract improvements including limits on temporary nurses, affordable health insurance, and fair compensation. MGB Home Care clinicians are negotiating their first union contract. MGB reported $22.8 billion in operating revenue and $2.39 billion in profits for fiscal year 2025. The system has refused to return to negotiations since August.

Abcuro announces $66 million Series D financing to advance its first-in-class Medicine in development for Inclusion Body Myositis. * Proceeds to support a potentially registrational clinical study in less severe inclusion body myositis (IBM) patients expected to begin in Q4 2026 and report top line results in 2H 2028 * Ulviprubart showed a trend toward clinically meaningful slowing of disease progression in patients with less severe IBM in the previous Phase 2/3 MUSCLE study * Series D financing led by New Leaf Venture Partners, joined by Abcuro's existing investors and new investor Rock Springs Capital Newton, Massachusetts, August 18, 2026 - Abcuro, Inc., a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing therapies for the treatment of autoimmune diseases through precise modulation of cytotoxic T cells, today announced the closing of a $66 million Series D financing led by current investor New Leaf Venture Partners with participation of existing investors including funds managed by abrdn Inc., Bain Capital Life Sciences, Samsara BioCapital, Redmile Group, Mass General Brigham Ventures, RA Capital Management, Pontifax, Sanofi Ventures, Foresite Capital, NEA, Eurofarma Ventures, Kaitai Capital, Soleus Capital, Nancy Chang, Shang Bay and joining the round is Rock Springs Capital. Proceeds from the Series D financing will support a new potentially registrational clinical study of ulviprubart, a first-in-class monoclonal antibody targeting killer cell lectin like receptor G1 (KLRG1), for the treatment of patients with less severe IBM. Abcuro has been in discussions with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and expects to initiate the new study in the fourth quarter of this year. Assuming positive results from the clinical study, Abcuro plans to file a biologics license application (BLA). Results from the recent Phase 2/3 MUSCLE study of ulviprubart in patients with IBM were presented at the 6th Global Conference on Myositis (GCOM) meeting in March 2026. The clinical data, while not statistically significant, showed a trend toward slowing of disease progression relative to placebo as measured by IBMFRS in the overall patient population, including a 50% slowing of disease progression in a pre-defined analysis of less severe IBM patients with IBMFRS >29. Ulviprubart was also shown to have a favorable safety and tolerability profile compared to placebo. "The MUSCLE study provided encouraging data in a pre-defined analysis of patients with less severe disease, underscoring ulviprubart's unique mechanism of targeting highly differentiated cytotoxic T cells expressing KLRG1," said Namita Goyal, MD, Chief of the Neuromuscular Division at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. "IBM continues to be a disabling, progressive disease with no approved treatment, affecting tens of thousands of patients around the world. InStride Health lands $30M series C to expand pediatric mental health services
