DoorDash is an on-demand food delivery platform that connects customers with local and national restaurants through a three-sided marketplace with customers, restaurants, and Dashers (delivery drivers). Customers browse menus, place orders, and receive meals via the app or website, while restaurants gain access to more customers. The service charges restaurants a commission on each order and applies delivery and service fees to customers, with Dashers earning base pay, tips, and bonuses. The goal is to expand its network and become a scalable, widely used solution for delivering meals efficiently.

DoorDash launches CringeMart for 'awkward essentials' after 4M shoppers ordered embarrassing items

DoorDash launched CringeMart, a digital storefront for items shoppers may feel embarrassed buying in person, including condoms, digestive aids, pregnancy tests and sex toys. More than four million customers purchased these "awkward essentials" through DoorDash last year, according to the company. The storefront features items commonly sold at convenience stores, such as Gatorade, over-the-counter medications and chewing gum. Categories include "Daily dump" for digestive aids and "Flow state" for menstrual products. Whilst primarily a delivery provider, DoorDash has expanded its digital retailing business. It launched DashMart, its online convenience store, six years ago and began offering it as a service to retailers like Kroger and CVS last year. Several convenience store chains partner with DoorDash for delivery.

DoorDash launches sub-hour auto parts delivery, bypassing major chains for independent retailers

DoorDash announced this week it is expanding into auto parts delivery, partnering with AutoParts.com to deliver over 200,000 parts and accessories in under an hour. Parts are matched to customers' specific vehicle details. Notably absent from the partnership are major chains AutoZone, O'Reilly, and Advance Auto. These retailers have spent the past decade building their own same-day delivery infrastructure and inventory systems, primarily serving repair shops. DoorDash is instead working with independently owned parts retailers across North America. Independent shops have historically employed their own delivery drivers since the 1950s for business-to-business orders. DoorDash is effectively taking this existing wholesale delivery model and making it consumer-facing through its platform, allowing smaller retailers to compete on speed without building costly delivery fleets.

DoorDash revenue jumps 36% to $4.5B as Deliveroo acquisition fuels growth

DoorDash reported second-quarter revenue of $4.5 billion, up 36% and exceeding the $4.34 billion analyst estimate. Adjusted EBITDA rose 40% to $914 million, whilst total orders reached 970 million. However, net income fell 30% to $200 million, impacted by higher legal, tax, and regulatory costs and a 52% increase in research and development spending. Much of the revenue growth came from Deliveroo, the UK delivery firm DoorDash acquired. Excluding Deliveroo, revenue rose 24%. Free cash flow more than doubled to $742 million from $355 million year-on-year. DoorDash has bought back $1.05 billion of stock this year. For the third quarter, the company guided to adjusted EBITDA of $950 million to $1.1 billion.

DoorDash launches drone delivery service as Uber eyes similar tech

DoorDash launched DoorDash Air, its in-house drone delivery programme, on 29 July after receiving Federal Aviation Administration certification for commercial drone deliveries across the US. The company's robotics unit, DoorDash Labs, built the aircraft from scratch, whilst maintaining partnerships with existing drone providers Wing and Flytrex. DoorDash's fiscal 2025 revenue reached nearly $13.7 billion, up roughly 27.9% year-on-year, with net income of approximately $935 million. The company maintains a debt-to-equity ratio near 0.3x and a current ratio around 1.4x. However, stock-based compensation represented about 43.2% of operating cash flow last fiscal year. DoorDash has not provided a timeline for when DoorDash Air will reach paying customers. On 5 August, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced Uber Eats is pursuing 10- to 15-minute drone deliveries, primarily through partners like Flytrex rather than building hardware internally.
