- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Applicants must graduate from an accredited medical assistant program or a medical assistant training program with an externship, or have the specified relevant healthcare or medical assistant experience for the applicable level.
- MA I candidates require one year of relevant healthcare experience, which may include an externship; one to two years of experience in a clinical ambulatory care setting is preferred.
- MA II candidates require at least three years of experience as a medical assistant.
- MA II candidates must hold Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification.
- Basic Life Support authorization must be obtained within 90 days of employment and maintained during employment.
- Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification is preferred for MA I.
- Assist providers in administering patient care in assigned clinical areas.
- Assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes.
- Perform general administrative duties in accordance with Joint Commission, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, National Committee for Quality Assurance, government standards, and company policies and procedures.
- Prepare visit charts by locating diagnostic test results, emergency or urgent care reports, discharge summaries, and consultation or primary care provider reports in the medical record for provider access.
- Room patients for provider visits by documenting the chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, medication list review, tobacco history, last menstrual period, health maintenance overrides, and other required information accurately and promptly.
- Obtain and document age- or condition-specific measurements, including vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, peak flow, and pulse oximetry.
- Conduct and document hearing, vision, respiratory, and electrocardiogram testing.
- Perform and document condition-specific screenings, including depression and asthma screening.
- Obtain, document, and process specimens using the appropriate collection process and equipment.
- Perform and document point-of-care testing accurately.
- Perform venipuncture procedures as needed and process specimens according to policies and procedures.
- Administer medications and immunizations through oral, nasal, injectable, rectal, and topical routes as appropriate.
- Process medication prescription refills through telephonic, electronic, or print methods according to guidelines.
- Handle prior authorization processes for medications and procedures and document them appropriately.
- Manage clinical supplies and medication sample areas by keeping stock current, storing items appropriately, labeling items, and maintaining par levels.
