Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
  • General mechanical skills.
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.
  • Manual dexterity and good judgment are required.
  • Ability to stand six to eight hours per shift.
  • Ability to lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds several times during each shift.
  • Ability to use hoists, test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Ability to work around noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials.
  • Ability to wear a dealership uniform at all times.
Responsibilities
  • Perform safety inspections on all vehicles.
  • Communicate additional service recommendations to Service Advisors or Service Writers.
  • Complete additional service recommendations and all assigned work effectively.
  • Dispatch work as required.
  • Keep current on original equipment manufacturer training.
  • Greet every customer every day.
  • Maintain high ethical standards when dealing with customers, co-workers, and vendors.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment standards.
  • Perform accurate vehicle inspections, vehicle repairs, and maintenance work in accordance with dealer and factory standards.
  • Receive repair orders from the dispatcher and take them to the stall area.
  • Perform work outlined on repair orders efficiently and accurately in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform repairs.
  • Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts when the job is under warranty or when requested by the customer.
  • Examine vehicles to determine whether additional safety or service work is required.
  • Immediately advise the Service Advisor if additional work is needed, outlined work is unnecessary, or repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document work performed.
  • Road-test vehicles when required or refer them to the test technician, ensuring customers' vehicles are not used for personal errands.
  • Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
  • Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
  • Ensure customers' cars are kept clean.
  • Keep the shop area neat and clean and account for all dealership-owned tools at all times.
  • Follow federal, state, and local regulations governing the disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Road-test vehicles to quality-check completed work.
  • Maintain a safe and clean workspace and ensure the facility is orderly, clean, and free of hazards.

  • ASE certification is preferred.
