Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children teaching area, excluding Academically or Intellectually Gifted licenses.
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to North Carolina requirements.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
Responsibilities
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs for students with disabilities, implement them, and use diagnostic information from tests and other assessments to update them as needed.
  • Implement instructional strategies and progress-monitoring tools to provide specially designed instruction.
  • Assist students in completing curriculum tasks and Individualized Education Program goals.
  • Employ teaching methods, strategies, accommodations, and modifications to meet student needs, and implement, adapt, or develop materials.
  • Monitor student behavior, maintain classroom discipline, de-escalate inappropriate behaviors, and teach appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Evaluate student work and assignment progress, adjust instruction to address educational needs, and coordinate progress-report and report-card grades.
  • Attend students' Individualized Education Program meetings and serve as a collaborative team member.
  • Stay current with instructional trends, research, and best practices through professional development, social media, and communication with other professionals.
  • Work in classroom and office environments and interact directly with school staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification.
