From Langkawi to Johor, here are four new Marriott hotels coming to Malaysia.

From Langkawi to Johor, here are four new Marriott hotels coming to Malaysia. Marriott International and IOI Properties Group are bringing four new properties in Langkawi, Putrajaya, Sepang and Johor Bahru. Malaysia is set to welcome four more Marriott hotels, with new properties planned for Langkawi, Putrajaya, Sepang and Johor Bahru. The new developments, signed in partnership with IOI Properties Group Berhad, will span Marriott's luxury and select-service portfolio, adding a combined 888 rooms to its development pipeline in Malaysia. More interestingly, the four hotels are not concentrated in one market. Instead, they reflect four very different sides of Malaysia's hospitality landscape - from island leisure and luxury to airport connectivity and the country's growing southern economic corridor. W Langkawi. Scheduled to open in 2030, W Langkawi will bring the W brand to the island for the first time. The planned 173-key beachfront resort will be located at Pantai Kok, close to attractions including the Langkawi Sky Bridge and within convenient reach of Langkawi International Airport. Its arrival adds another contemporary luxury proposition to one of Malaysia's best-known resort destinations, with W's design-led identity bringing a different energy to Langkawi's established hospitality scene. The Ritz-Carlton, Putrajaya. Luxury takes a more urban direction with The Ritz-Carlton, Putrajaya, planned to open in 2032 with 215 rooms. The hotel will form part of a 70-storey mixed-use tower within Phase 3 of IOI Resort City, an integrated development combining retail, residential, hospitality and recreational offerings. The project also reflects Putrajaya's evolving position beyond its role as Malaysia's administrative capital, with its location connecting it to the wider southern Klang Valley, Cyberjaya and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Aloft by Marriott Sepang. For travellers passing through Malaysia's principal international gateway, Aloft by Marriott Sepang is planned as a 250-key property scheduled to open in 2030. The hotel will form part of a 40-acre commercial development in Kota Warisan, approximately 12km from KLIA and close to the Salak Tinggi ERL station, providing rail connections to both KLIA and Kuala Lumpur Sentral. Its location positions the property to serve a mix of corporate, leisure and meetings demand around Sepang and the airport. Aloft by Marriott Johor Bahru Plentong. The fourth property will bring the Aloft brand to Johor Bahru for the first time. Also expected to open in 2030, the 250-key hotel will be part of IOI @ Plentong, a mixed-use development comprising retail and residential components. Its location places it close to major commercial and industrial demand generators including Pasir Gudang Industrial Area and Johor Port, while providing access to Johor Bahru city centre and the Johor-Singapore Causeway. With Johor continuing to develop as a regional economic hub, the hotel will be positioned to serve both business and leisure travellers moving through the area. A growing Marriott presence. (Seated L-R) Dato' Lee Yeow Seng, Group Chief Executive Officer, IOIPG; Rajeev Menon, President, APEC Marriott Intl.; (Standing L-R) Alan Yau Chuen Tao, Head of Hotels IOIPG; Gautam Bhandari, Chief Development Officer, APEC, Marriott Intl.; Andree Susilo, VP, Hotel Development, APEC, Marriott Intl. The four new hotels add another chapter to Marriott International and IOI Properties' longstanding relationship. Marriott currently manages seven IOI Properties-owned hotels across seven brands in Malaysia. The latest agreements also follow the previously announced The Westin Puchong, a 324-key hotel expected to open in 2031 as part of IOI Rio City, a MYR12 billion integrated mixed-use development in Bandar Puteri Puchong. For Marriott, the expansion brings its brands into a wider range of Malaysian destinations. For travellers, it means four more options to look forward to - whether the journey calls for a beachfront escape in Langkawi, a luxury stay in Putrajaya or a more connected base in Sepang or Johor Bahru.

Marriot Hotel to host CVAM's inaugural Bye Bye Malaria festival this November.

Marriot Hotel to host CVAM's inaugural Bye Bye Malaria festival this November. Children Voices Against Malaria Uganda (CVAMU) will hold its inaugural Bye Bye Malaria Schools Festival at Marriott Hotel in Kampala on November 20, 2026. The festival will run under the theme, "My Day, My Rights: My Health, My Future," and will bring together children, schools, health partners and communities to promote malaria awareness, prevention and access to health services. Marriot Hotel The event will take place on World Children's Day, commemorated annually on November 20. The day marks the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. Speaking at the launch of the festival, CVAM Executive Director Henry Lutwama said malaria continues to pose a serious threat to children's health, education and family welfare. He said malaria can cause serious illness, interrupt learning, increase school absenteeism and place financial pressure on families. He added that children need accurate information, supportive adults and access to proven malaria prevention and health services. "Schools provide an important platform for helping children learn, develop healthy practices and share correct information with their families." Lutwama said. " Children's Voices Against Malaria Uganda (CVAMU) is building a bold, child-led movement that will unite schools, learners, teachers, families and partners in the fight against malaria. The movement will be officially launched on 20 November 2026, in commemoration of World Children's Day, placing children's voices, leadership and right to health at the centre of malaria elimination. Through School Malaria Clubs, education, advocacy and practical prevention activities, children will be empowered to lead lasting change in their schools and communities." Children Voices Against Malaria Uganda empowers children and schools to prevent malaria through education, participation and practical action. The organisation says the festival will give children an opportunity to share their experiences, raise awareness and participate in efforts to reduce malaria infections in their communities. "This Festival gives us an opportunity, as children, to share experiences on how to fight malaria because in the end, we are the most vulnerable," said Katrina Joyce Bakka, a malaria champion. Regional health bulletins published in August 2026 indicated that malaria remains Uganda's dominant public health threat. The Mbale and Lango regions recorded particularly high transmission rates, with paediatric malaria prevalence in parts of Lango reaching between 32% and 60%. Broader data finalised in 2026 showed that national childhood malaria prevalence had risen to 13%, from 10% in previous survey cycles. Health experts have attributed the increase to shifting weather patterns, rising temperatures and inconsistent use of mosquito nets. In late August, medical experts and laboratory specialists also warned of a significant increase in severe malaria cases and rapid clinical deterioration among school-age children. The festival comes amid the implementation of the Uganda Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan 2026-2030. As part of the plan, the Ministry of Health expanded Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC), a programme involving the intermittent administration of protective antimalarial doses. The intervention, which was previously limited to children under five years, has been extended to children up to 10 years in areas with highly seasonal malaria transmission, including Karamoja. Lutwama said the festival will complement national malaria-control efforts by equipping children with practical knowledge and encouraging them to promote prevention measures at home, in schools and within their communities.
