About the Job

Requirements

  • 4–5 years of product design experience shipping software, supported by a portfolio demonstrating process and decision-making.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, auto-layout, and variables.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining a design system, including defining tokens and component APIs, documenting usage, communicating version changes, managing deprecations, and keeping the design library aligned with its coded implementation.
  • Experience designing complex, information-dense applications, such as enterprise, analytics, logistics, or operational tools.
  • Working knowledge of front-end concepts, including component structure, state, responsive behavior, and design tokens, with the ability to collaborate with engineers and identify implementation drift.
  • Experience using discovery, user research, or competitive analysis to inform design decisions and solve product problems.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills, including translating business goals into functional design solutions, explaining trade-offs, and respectfully challenging decisions when needed.
  • Ability to work independently through standard design challenges and recognize when to seek guidance on complex architectural or system-scaling decisions.
  • Strong storytelling, presentation, written, and asynchronous communication skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale and build alignment across teams, time zones, and security boundaries.
  • Active Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Own feature design from discovery through shipped implementation, including problem framing, flows, wireframes, high-fidelity user interfaces, and design quality assurance.
  • Design data-dense tables, map and timeline views, simulation outputs, and multi-role workflows with clear information hierarchy.
  • Contribute to and extend the design system by building components in Figma, defining tokens and variants, and partnering with engineering on React/TypeScript implementation.
  • Conduct lightweight discovery with subject-matter experts and end users within government-environment access constraints, and translate findings into shared team artifacts.
  • Design authentication flows using CAC/PIV, role-based access control, permissions, empty and error states, and audit-friendly interactions.
  • Meet WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Give and receive design critique, and present work clearly to non-designers, including customers and program stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

  • A clearance above Secret, such as Top Secret or TS/SCI.
  • Prior work on defense, government, or other regulated or compliance-heavy products.
  • Experience contributing code to a design system or front-end codebase using React, TypeScript, or CSS.
  • Familiarity with map-based interfaces, scheduling and timeline user interfaces, or simulation and modeling tools.
  • Experience designing for classified or air-gapped environments, or working within FedRAMP and IL5 constraints.

About the Company

DEFCON AI

AI-driven MS&A for logistics disruptions

DEFCON AI focuses on modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) for modern logistics and mobility. It uses AI-powered software with an intelligent agent embedded in a simulation environment to help decision makers handle disruptions in transportation and supply chains. The product works by running simulations that mimic real-world logistics networks, guiding users through different disruption scenarios and showing strategic and operational options. What sets DEFCON AI apart is its combination of AI-driven agents and MS&A within a dynamic simulation platform aimed specifically at resilience planning for logistics, rather than generic analytics. The company’s goal is to improve resilience in the face of disruption by providing actionable insights and decision support for complex transport and supply chain challenges.
