KBR secures $60M NATO contract for PATRIOT system support. * KBR will support PATRIOT integration with the Army's IBCS architecture * The five-year award will cover work at U.S. and international locations * The contract builds on KBR's decades of PATRIOT engineering and technical support KBR's mission technology solutions business has secured a potential $60 million recompete contract from NATO to support the PATRIOT air and missile defense system, the company said Monday. What is the scope of the PATRIOT support contract? Under the five-year, time-and-materials award, KBR will support the integration of the PATRIOT system with the Integrated Battle Command System, or IBCS, to link sensors and effectors through an integrated command-and-control architecture. The mission technology solutions division, which will be renamed Trinzic following its planned spin-off, will perform the work at locations worldwide, including Redstone Arsenal government facilities and KBR offices in Huntsville, Alabama, as well as Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Managed by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, the program aims to accelerate sustainment and integration timelines while supporting operational readiness. How does the award build on KBR's PATRIOT work? KBR has provided technical and engineering services for the PATRIOT system for decades, supporting the Department of War and international partners. In 2022, the company received a five-year, $207 million task order to conduct engineering analyses, modeling and simulation and testing aimed at enhancing the missile defense system. The task order covered areas including surveillance, guidance, fire control, engagement decision logic and interceptor performance. PATRIOT is fielded worldwide, safeguarding military forces, critical infrastructure and civilian populations. KBR said sustainment and readiness support remain necessary as the system continues to integrate with developing air and missile defense architectures. Jay Lennon, president of mission technology solutions, said the award demonstrates KBR's ability to deliver technical support at scale and at the pace required by current air and missile defense demands. Lennon and Vice President of Business Strategy Daniel Dant were recently selected to oversee the company's Golden Dome missile defense strategy and related efforts.
Morocco ammonia project targets shipping demand. by Ship & Bunker News Team Monday August 17, 2026 The proposed project is expected to produce around 560,000 tonnes/year of low-carbon ammonia. File Image / Pixabay A planned ammonia project in Morocco's Laayoune region is targeting shipping and other export markets with expected production of around 560,000 tonnes/year. The project, being developed by ORNX Green Hydrogen, will use about 900 MW of electrolyser capacity to produce hydrogen and ammonia from renewable power, KBR said in a press release last Wednesday. Engineering firm KBR has been appointed to provide ammonia technology licensing and pre-FEED services for the project, with funding support from the US Trade and Development Agency. The development will combine power generation, hydrogen production and ammonia synthesis, with access to port infrastructure supporting exports. The pre-FEED study will be carried out by KBR with GE Vernova, Electric Hydrogen and Terabase. The project is expected to supply low-carbon ammonia to the fertilizer, maritime and industrial sectors. With ammonia engines now becoming commercially available and shipowners beginning to order vessels, the industry is gradually moving to embrace the fuel. However, significant work remains to develop bunkering infrastructure, as ammonia is toxic and requires strict safety precautions. Huntsville defense firm unveils homegrown "firefly" Laser that zaps enemy drones in seconds. A Huntsville, Alabama defense company gave an up-close demonstration this week of a powerful new anti-drone laser system designed to knock unmanned aerial threats out of the sky before they can endanger U.S. military personnel or American civilians. KBR and its Huntsville-based subsidiary Kord demonstrated FIREFLY, a mobile high-energy laser weapon designed to detect, track, and destroy unmanned aircraft before they can reach American troops, civilian gatherings, or critical infrastructure. Attendees were required to put on laser-protection goggles before the test began. On a live screen, observers watched as the system's sensors and AI-assisted targeting technology identified and followed a drone. Then FIREFLY took it down. Axios reported that the truck-mounted 20-kilowatt system disabled the quadcopter in under four seconds. Kord officials said the onboard batteries provide roughly 15 minutes of total "laser-on time," the unit can be deployed in about 30 minutes, and an operator can learn the controls in as little as five minutes. "This is a homegrown product," KBR's David Zoller said, according to WAFF. "I think often we can look at the work that happens in Huntsville, you see Redstone, you see all the traffic and everything, and you kinda have to wonder what's going on over there," Zoller continued. "Well, it's protecting the people, and this is one of the methods that we're doing it." Instead of launching expensive interceptors one-by-one at cheap enemy drones, MORFIUS flies into the swarm and blasts them with directed microwave energy, frying their electronics and knocking them out of the sky. Lockheed says the system can neutralize more than 50 enemy drones in a single flight. MORFIUS is a ground-launched X-rotor unmanned aircraft carrying a high-power microwave payload. It is designed for field recovery and reuse. After frying a swarm, it returns, gets recovered, and can launch again. That means a dramatically lower cost-per-kill compared to firing a missile at every single $20,000-$50,000 kamikaze drone. The study is being supported through funding from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). KBR will provide technology licensing and pre-FEED services for the project, which is expected to produce approximately 560,000 metric tons per year of low-cost ammonia and utilize about 900 MW of electrolyzer capacity. The development will integrate power generation, hydrogen production and ammonia synthesis into a large-scale platform. The project is expected to leverage the region's abundant renewable resources and strategic access to port infrastructure. KBR was instrumental in supporting ORNX's engagement with USTDA and the development of the successful grant application that secured funding for the project's Pre-FEED study. "KBR is proud to support ORNX and USTDA on this important low cost ammonia initiative in Morocco," said Jay Ibrahim, President, Sustainable Technology Solutions, KBR. "As a global leader in ammonia technology, KBR is uniquely positioned to help developers accelerate project maturity, optimize plant performance and reduce execution risk. This award reflects the strength of our integrated approach and our commitment to enabling the energy transition through scalable, commercially viable solutions." The ORNX project is expected to contribute to Morocco's renewable energy and hydrogen objectives while helping establish a large-scale, export-oriented supply of low-carbon ammonia for global markets. The development aligns with increasing demand for clean fuels and sustainable feedstocks across the fertilizer, maritime and industrial sectors. Morocco has identified hydrogen and its derivatives as a strategic growth opportunity and continues to attract international investment in large-scale renewable energy projects. "We are very grateful to KBR for its considerable support in working with USTDA to reach this important milestone for our ammonia project in Laayoune" said Peter A. Gish, President and CEO of ORNX. "This funding will ensure the successful completion of the pre-FEED studies lead by world-renown KBR, together with a consortium which includes GE Vernova, Electric Hydrogen and Terabase. We look forward to working closely with our partners as we accelerate towards the FEED and Final Investment Decision for our project."
