What believers are saying

  • EK is hiring a Semantic Data and AI Engineer, signaling active demand.
  • June 2026 YMCA and Tax Analysts work prove repeatable search and taxonomy delivery.
  • September 2026 Progress Data Platform Summit and July keynote panels keep EK visible.

What critics are saying

  • Consulting revenue depends on billable experts; losing Sara Nash or Zach Wahl hurts delivery.
  • Docebo AgentHub and Microsoft Copilot bundle enterprise knowledge, compressing EK’s differentiation by 2027.
  • If EK misses productization, larger firms like Accenture will capture AI-readiness projects.

What makes Enterprise Knowledge unique

  • July 2026: EK’s Sara Nash framed AI-readiness around semantic engineering and governance.
  • EK’s 2026 work spans taxonomies, knowledge graphs, hybrid search, and AI architecture.

Sara Nash presenting keynote panel at Data Architecture Online 2026.

Sara Nash presenting keynote panel at Data Architecture Online 2026. July 10, 2026 Sara Nash, Practice Lead for Semantic Engineering and AI at Enterprise Knowledge, will be moderating the keynote session titled "The AI Reality Check: Why Most Data Architectures Aren't Ready" at Data Architecture Online's annual event on Wednesday, July 22nd at 2:30 PM EST. Through this session, attendees will gain valuable insights into what actually breaks when AI moves beyond the pilot phase, the architectural decisions that drive scalable solutions, and practical strategies for moving from reactive fixes to intentional, AI-ready architecture. The panelists will discuss topics such as: * The architectural gaps organizations consistently overlook, from fragmented control planes and missing metadata to unclear ownership and inconsistent meaning across systems; * The role of governance in enabling rather than slowing down AI initiatives, and what it takes to build data and models that can actually be trusted; and * How organizations can align data, context, governance, and execution to build pipelines and architecture that hold up under real-world pressure and scale.

A Practical Guide to an Intranet Remodel: Small Taxonomy Wins for a Big Impact.

A Practical Guide to an Intranet Remodel: Small Taxonomy Wins for a Big Impact. June 16, 2026 The world of knowledge management is moving at a fast pace and it is challenging to keep up with trends that often demand investing in the latest tooling to solve increasingly complex semantic challenges. However, for many organizations, particularly non-profits, many advanced systems and solutions are prohibitively expensive. The YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) recognized a need to control their shared knowledge base and develop guidance around knowledge management without breaking the bank, and partnered with Enterprise Knowledge to develop custom taxonomies to be implemented in their existing systems. As they found, applying best practices in semantic modeling to existing systems can go a long way in improving the end user experience. Bonnie Griffin (Enterprise Knowledge) and Miriam Heard (YMCA of the USA) shared their experiences leveraging taxonomy to improve functionality at the ASIS&T Information Science Summit and Special Libraries Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 8th, 2026. In their presentation, "A Practical Guide to an Intranet Remodel: Small Taxonomy Wins for a Big Impact," Bonnie and Miriam provide an overview of how to approach a "taxonomy remodel," following the analogy of a home renovation. They talk through the different phases of their taxonomy project, outlining their approaches to surfacing user needs, developing custom taxonomies, conducting validation activities, and establishing a flexible governance plan. Heard and Griffin also share how they fostered a partnership to create a system that stuck to the basics and accomplished a long-awaited taxonomy development goal, building a basis for sustainable knowledge management with modest tools and a grassroots group of passionate people. Participants in this session gained insights into: * How to identify when your organization is ready for a "taxonomy remodel" * The stages of a "taxonomy remodel" * How to navigate system limitations when upgrading to new tools isn't in scope * How to continuously secure stakeholder buy-in and prioritize end user benefits Slide deck.

This year, EK was ranked at #29 in the medium business category. "Amongst all of our recognition, these awards are the most meaningful to me as they are driven by how our own employees feel about their work," said EK CEO Zach Wahl. "And by the way, we're hiring!" This recognition for EK follows similar awards, including Inc. Magazine's Best Workplaces, KM World's 100 Companies That Matter in KM and AI Trailblazers, and as one of six New Suppliers to Honda recognized for outstanding performance during the past year.

Making Search Less Taxing: Leveraging Semantics and Keywords in Hybrid Search

February 9, 2026 Explore how Tax Analysts, the nonpartisan nonprofit behind Tax Notes, upgraded its search functionality to help subscribers both easily find information and discover unexpected, relevant content. At KMWorld 2025, Chris Marino of Enterprise Knowledge partnered with Jaime Martin, Senior Product Manager and Business Analyst at Tax Analysts, to discuss how semantics and keyword search strategies can improve search experiences for users. Users of a search platform expressed challenges with findability and usability. Martin and Marino's solution improved flexibility and precision of search results, improving users' experiences with the tool. Session attendees learned important takeaways, such as: * Keyword search remains relevant in modern search systems, excelling at exact matches and specific terminology. * Vector search captures semantic meaning and context, leading to more comprehensive results that satisfy both precise and conceptual queries. * By combining keyword and semantic methods, hybrid search allows for improved recall and precision.
