Requirements
- An associate degree or diploma in nursing is required.
- Associate degree nurses must graduate from a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within six years of hire into an Registered Nurse position.
- An active, unrestricted Arizona Registered Nurse license or valid participating compact license is required.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course certification is required within 90 days of hire.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification is required within 30 days of hire.
- Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses or Trauma Nursing Core Course certification is required within 18 months of hire.
- One year of emergency department experience with pediatric and/or adult patients is required.
- Familiarity with an electronic medical record system is required.
- Basic computer software proficiency in Windows is required.
Responsibilities
- Assess the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant patient health information.
- Identify outcomes, develop an individualized plan of care, and implement the plan to attain expected outcomes.
- Assess patient progress toward outcomes and revise or update diagnoses, outcomes, and plans of care as appropriate.
- Provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while respecting patients, family members, guests, and associates with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Evaluate patient conditions frequently and adapt the plan of care appropriately.
- Perform aseptic techniques by maintaining a sterile field and applying disinfection, sterilization, and infection-control principles.
- Maintain infection-prevention standards.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist with procedures and transportation throughout the hospital according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence-based practice and research.
- Engage in personal development and professional and collegial interactions with peers and students.
- Work collaboratively with peers and other healthcare providers and participate in ongoing in-service and educational seminars.
- Mentor and educate colleagues and students.
- Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Practice in a safe, high-quality, and cost-effective manner.
- Stay current with and comply with state and federal regulations, statutes, and company policies affecting the area of responsibility.
- Keep required certifications and licenses current and valid before their expiration dates.
- Complete mandatory company modules and required job-specific training within the specified time frame.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, electronic medical record entries, and patient responses.
- Report safety-related incidents promptly through the Midas/RDE tool, attend safety-related training programs, work safely, monitor the work environment for safety issues, and ensure others work safely.
- Coordinate care for patients and their families, including direct care, patient and family education, and discharge planning.
- Use the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation to deliver care.
- Provide leadership for ancillary personnel by serving as a team leader, preceptor, and active member of the healthcare team.
- Practice within the American Nurses Association Scope of Practice, the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the standards of the chosen specialty.
Desired Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is preferred.
- STABLE certification is preferred.
