Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree, with 5–10 years of mechanical engineering design and analysis experience in industrial rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines, or compressors, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and mentoring experience.
  • Ability to conduct stress analysis and other design calculations using manual or digital techniques.
  • Ability to author, read, and interpret engineering drawings, with familiarity with ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract technical specifications.
  • Experience with engineering design codes, practices, and processes.
  • Experience utilizing the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Ability to interpret the function and intent of existing designs and modify them for new applications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the engineering aspects of designing, analyzing, manufacturing, assembling, testing, and operating centrifugal pumps.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Mathcad, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, and internet tools.
  • Detail-oriented, strategic, organized, independent, highly motivated, and able to guide and direct reports.
  • Professional Engineer registration or the ability to obtain registration.
Responsibilities
  • Lead overall new unit design activities, including mechanical design, design risk identification and mitigation, material selection, compliance with company and contract-specific design codes and standards, and other engineering activities from design through shipping.
  • Create and maintain engineering schedules and produce progress reports.
  • Assist Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations with new unit design activities and rollout.
  • Supervise, develop, and review reporting employees.
  • Collaborate with Technical and Functional Managers to recommend mechanical design strategies, determine tasks and priorities, set deadlines, and ensure business and contract goals are met.
  • Ensure reporting engineers correctly translate contract design specifications and standards into manufacturing drawings, contract submittals, bills of material, procedures, tests, analytical reports, and other required contract deliverables.
  • Identify development plans for reporting employees and coordinate training and specialization with Technical and Functional Managers.
  • Supervise, perform, and review calculations and analyses required for new unit design.
  • Supervise or perform test-plan writing, test-loop design, unit testing, and other design-validation activities.
  • Work with other disciplines and subject-matter experts in electrical, hydraulic, and related areas as needed.
  • Perform self-checks, mentor and counsel peers and reports, and provide technical guidance.
  • Develop design and analysis tools, processes, and techniques; promote mechanical design excellence and process improvement.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews and other engineering design-process activities.
  • Approve time off, schedules, overtime, and timecards for reports, and conduct annual reviews.
  • Ensure required Hayward Tyler Quality Program training is up to date.
  • Provide proposal, product-application, specification-interpretation, and compliance support to Application and Aftermarket Sales.
  • Provide technical assistance to clients regarding operation, installation, and maintenance of Hayward Tyler equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing to meet design requirements and resolve manufacturing conflicts.
  • Provide support, supervision, and quality-related documentation to Quality.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to engineers, contracts, and other business areas.
  • Perform stress analysis, materials science, vibration, heat-transfer, and other analyses for rotating mechanical equipment.
  • Report project and task status and develop schedules.
  • Travel less than 10% per year.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience utilizing Section VIII or Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Experience with ANSYS, ARMD, CFTurbo, or other specialized engineering software.
