Who has joined Transport Australia's Board?

Who has joined Transport Australia's Board? Transport Australia has appointed senior executives from CIMIC Group, ACCIONA and Transurban to its Board as it strengthens its cross-sector leadership and national transport focus. Transport Australia has appointed three senior infrastructure and transport executives to its Board as the industry association strengthens its leadership across the national transport system. The new directors are CIMIC Group president and executive director Roberto Gallardo, ACCIONA Australia and New Zealand Infrastructure CEO Peter Regan and Transurban Group executive for Delivery and Risk Nicole Stoddart. Transport Australia said the appointments would add current experience spanning infrastructure construction, project delivery, transport operations, finance and public policy. The organisation brings public and private sector participants together around issues including transport productivity, safety, resilience and capability. Who are the new directors? Gallardo brings more than 30 years of international infrastructure and construction experience. As president and executive director of CIMIC Group, he leads the organisation's strategic direction, governance and long-term growth. Regan joined ACCIONA in September 2026 after five years as chief executive of Sydney Metro. He has more than 25 years of experience across infrastructure development, financing and delivery, including senior roles at Transport for NSW as chief financial officer and deputy secretary for Infrastructure and Place. Stoddart joined Transurban in 2024 as group executive for Delivery and Risk and currently also holds acting responsibility for Australian Markets. Her background includes transport infrastructure, engineering, major project delivery and organisational leadership, including previous senior transport roles with the Victorian Government. Why has Transport Australia refreshed its Board? Transport Australia chair Aneetha de Silva said the organisation wanted its Board to reflect the range of organisations involved in planning, funding, delivering and operating Australia's transport system. "As the peak industry association for the transport sector, Transport Australia is most effective when it is led by a Board comprising the senior leaders of the public and private sector organisations who plan, fund, deliver and operate our national transport system," de Silva said. She said the three incoming directors would bring significant current industry experience to the organisation. That breadth is relevant to an industry increasingly dealing with issues that cross traditional transport boundaries, including road and rail infrastructure, major project delivery, network operations and investment. What does Transport Australia focus on? Transport Australia CEO Ehssan Veiszadeh said the organisation's role was to connect government and industry around national transport priorities. "Transport Australia brings government and industry together to improve the productivity, safety, resilience and capability of the transport system," Veiszadeh said. Its membership includes organisations involved across the lifecycle of transport infrastructure, from planning and financing through to construction, operation and maintenance. Veiszadeh said that experience was intended to feed into national policy discussions and evidence-led advocacy. Who is leaving the Board? The new appointments coincide with the departure of three directors. Bede Noonan, former CEO of ACCIONA's Australia and New Zealand infrastructure business and former Transport Australia treasurer, is leaving alongside Transurban Group executive Nicole Green and former CIMIC Group CEO Pedro Vicente. De Silva credited the outgoing directors with contributing to Transport Australia's development over recent years. "Bede, Pedro and Nicole were major contributors to Transport Australia's evolution over the last few years and have left a great legacy for the organisation and our industry," she said. The changes maintain representation from CIMIC Group, ACCIONA and Transurban while bringing new senior leaders from each organisation into the Board.

CIMIC selected by Vocus to develop major digital infrastructure initiative

CIMIC selected by Vocus to develop major digital infrastructure initiative. UGL, a member of the CIMIC Group, has been selected by Vocus - a leading Australian digital infrastructure provider - as its development partner for the initial phase of the Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform, a major national fibre initiative designed to strengthen Australia's digital infrastructure and support future demand for AI, cloud and data centre connectivity. UGL will deliver an early works program to support development of the project's first proposed route between Sydney and Melbourne. The initial program includes survey, design, engineering, field validation, stakeholder engagement, project management and cost modelling activities required to prepare the project for construction. The Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform is Vocus' long-term initiative to develop new high-capacity fibre subsea, intercapital and metro fibre infrastructure across Australia and the APAC region, supporting growing demand from AI infrastructure, hyperscale and data centres, cloud platforms and digital services. CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Jason Spears said: "Reliable, high-capacity digital infrastructure is increasingly critical to Australia's economic growth and productivity. CIMIC Group is pleased to support Vocus in developing this nationally significant project, which will strengthen connectivity between major population centres and support the growth of emerging technologies, including hyperscale data centres, artificial intelligence and cloud computing." UGL Managing Director Sam Goldsmith said: "UGL has a long history of delivering complex infrastructure that underpins Australia's growth and prosperity. This partnership expands UGL's role in Australia's digital future. By supporting the development of next-generation fibre infrastructure, we are helping create the connectivity backbone required to support growing demand from data centres, cloud services and AI-enabled technologies." The agreement further strengthens UGL's relationship with leading infrastructure owners and operators and positions the company to support the delivery of future stages of the Australian Digital Infrastructure Platform as it expands across Australia. The early works program is expected to start in August 2026. You may like...

The ACS Group, through CIMIC, is developing two new renewable energy projects in Australia.

The ACS Group, through CIMIC, is developing two new renewable energy projects in Australia. Its subsidiaries UGL and CPB Contractors will participate in the construction of a wind farm in Western Australia and in the modernization of the electricity grid in New South Wales The Australian company CIMIC Group, part of its patron Grupo ACS, has announced the award of two new strategic projects combining renewable energy generation and the modernization of electrical infrastructure. The first project is the construction of the Narrogin wind farm in Western Australia, which will have a capacity of 179 MW. UGL and CPB Contractors, subsidiaries of CIMIC, have been selected by Neoen and Envision to carry out the works, which will include the design and construction of access roads, platforms, foundations, collector circuits, and a high-voltage substation. The project will feature 23 wind turbines of 7.8 MW each. The second project is being developed in New South Wales, where UGL has won a contract with Transgrid to carry out the necessary works for the future installation of synchronous condensers at the Wellington and Darlington Point substations. This project is part of the first phase of Transgrid's System Strengthening Plan. UGL's work includes earthworks, foundations, underground utilities, and new facilities to house electrical and communications systems. This infrastructure will be essential to ensuring the security and resilience of the grid. With these two projects, CIMIC consolidates its position in energy and renewable infrastructure in Australia. Read the news on the ACS Group website
