Requirements
  • A master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Leadership, Education, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or student affairs is required.
  • Experience supervising professional staff is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex student situations with professionalism and compassion is required.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills are required.
  • The position requires the ability to navigate campus facilities, including stairs and multiple residence halls.
  • The position requires availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency response situations.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary advocate for student well-being and success.
  • Meet with students experiencing personal, academic, behavioral, or emotional challenges.
  • Coordinate interventions and support plans for students in distress.
  • Lead efforts related to student retention, belonging, and holistic development.
  • Oversee student case management and referral processes.
  • Administer the university's student conduct process.
  • Investigate and adjudicate violations of the Student Handbook.
  • Facilitate educational sanctions and restorative practices when appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations impacting students.
  • Coordinate institutional responses to student crises and emergencies.
  • Serve as a key member of the university's crisis response and behavioral intervention teams.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support students affected by emergencies, mental health concerns, or critical incidents.
  • Provide leadership and guidance during campus-wide emergencies involving students.
  • Provide supervision and strategic direction for Residence Life operations.
  • Support the development of residential communities that promote student growth, belonging, and engagement.
  • Oversee student leadership development programs, orientation initiatives, and co-curricular programming.
  • Collaborate with staff to create meaningful student experiences outside the classroom.
  • Supervise professional and student staff within Student Development.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, performance management, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative, student-focused culture among team members.
  • Assist with budget development and resource stewardship.
  • Partner with Academic Affairs, Athletics, Enrollment, ADA Services, Counseling Services, International Student Services, Campus Safety, and other campus departments.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to support student success initiatives.
  • Serve on institutional committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Serve as a designated emergency responder for significant student emergencies, critical incidents, and campus crises, including providing leadership, decision-making, support, and coordination outside normal business hours.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership or the designated supervisor in support of departmental and institutional goals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in Residence Life, Student Conduct, the Dean of Students Office, or Student Support Services.
  • Crisis management and behavioral intervention experience.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, ADA accommodations, the Clery Act, and other higher education regulations.
