About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of progressive finance experience, including experience in supply chain finance, innovation finance, product costing, operations finance, or financial planning and analysis.
  • Strong command of product profit and loss statements, cost of goods sold, gross margin, standard costing, scenario analysis, and investment decision support.
  • The ability to build credible financial estimates from incomplete information and communicate assumptions and confidence levels clearly.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple cross-functional workstreams, deadlines, and decision points.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets and financial modeling skills.
  • Executive-ready communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Comfort operating in a high-growth environment where product specifications, timelines, and processes continue to evolve.
Responsibilities
  • Own the financial workstream for the preliminary financial assessment process, establishing required inputs, timelines, cost targets, review standards, and approval-ready outputs.
  • Develop early-stage product profit and loss statements, cost proxies, margin ranges, and scenario models using available assumptions for formula, packaging, tolling, freight, warehousing, volume, price, and trade.
  • Translate concept changes into implications for net sales, cost of goods sold, gross margin, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, working capital, and cash flow.
  • Identify material assumptions, sensitivities, risks, and information gaps and communicate the confidence level of financial estimates.
  • Provide financial guidance at innovation stage gates and recommend cost targets, design choices, launch readiness, and economic viability.
  • Maintain a portfolio view of pipeline economics, highlighting value creation, margin risk, resource trade-offs, and changes from prior approvals.
  • Coordinate with Product Development, research and development, Brand, Procurement, Co-Manufacturing, Operations, and Supply Chain Finance to develop and validate product cost assumptions.
  • Partner with technical teams on formula, specification, packaging, and process alternatives that can improve margin while protecting product quality and consumer experience.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes, co-manufacturing tolls, minimum order quantities, yields, scrap, line trials, capital requirements, and scale assumptions.
  • Support reformulations, packaging changes, productivity initiatives, and stock-keeping-unit lifecycle decisions with disciplined financial analysis.
  • Ensure approved launch economics, risks, timing, and commitments are documented and transferred into forecasts, standard costs, and post-launch tracking.
  • Conduct post-launch reviews comparing actual performance with approved assumptions and convert learnings into stronger future estimates.
  • Establish scalable templates, governance, and documentation standards for innovation costing and financial assessment.
  • Build relationships across Innovation, Finance, and Supply Chain and facilitate decisions when priorities or assumptions conflict.
  • Create executive summaries that distill complex product economics into key variables and trade-offs.
  • Track cost targets, margin commitments, risks, and actions across the pipeline and escalate material deviations promptly.
  • Improve financial acumen across innovation teams by providing practical tools, training, and ongoing guidance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting new product development, commercialization, reformulations, packaging changes, or stage-gate processes.
  • Experience in consumer packaged goods, food, manufacturing, retail, or another stock-keeping-unit-intensive business.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning, product lifecycle management, and financial planning systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Anaplan, or comparable platforms.

About the company

Kinder's makes barbecue sauces, seasonings, rubs, and marinades for consumers and operates California deli/butcher shops plus nationally distributed packaged foods. Its products are sold in major retailers, building the brand since 1946 after the 1988 recipe helped it scale. It differentiates itself through a long family heritage paired with a dual business model of local restaurants and broad CPG distribution, now backed by Kaulig Capital. Its goal is to grow the brand and expand distribution while keeping its family-owned roots.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Walmart Data Ventures said Kinder's launched two products in 2025, adding over 50% incrementality.
  • June 2026 Gold Label BBQ Sauce Variety Pack broadened peak-season shelf presence.
  • Kinder's premium seasoning rankings remain strong online, reinforcing household staple status in 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Premium condiments face Costco and Walmart private-label pressure that compresses margins by 2026.
  • A reset at Walmart or Costco would slash volumes and challenge Kinder's economics.
  • If flavor innovation stalls, giant incumbents and store brands can erase Kinder's premium halo.

What makes Kinder's unique

  • Kinder's blends butcher-shop heritage with CPG scale across sauces, seasonings, and rubs.
  • National retail reach spans Walmart, Costco, Albertsons, and Sam's Club by 2026.
  • Kaulig Capital backed Kinder's in late 2022, funding faster innovation and distribution.
