About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of structural analysis experience for aircraft or complex aerospace vehicles, working with metallic, composite, and polymer structures, plus hands-on hardware experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a top-level Global Finite Element Model or equivalent system-level model integrating multiple subsystem inputs, and experience managing contributions from 3–5 engineers.
  • Capability with industry-standard tools such as NX, FEMAP/NX Nastran, ANSYS, and Siemens Design Center, and proficiency scripting in Python or MATLAB to automate workflows and reports.
  • Classical stress and dynamics background, including Roark/Bruhn-level hand-calculation fluency, structural modes, random vibration, and forced-harmonic analysis experience.
  • Track record of experimental correlation, including defining instrumentation, producing pre-test predictions, and tuning models to match static, dynamic, and flight tests within engineering tolerances.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain the top-level Global Finite Element Model, setting and enforcing standards for material properties, numbering, interfaces, model fidelity, and validation procedures, and ensuring it serves as the team's single source of truth.
  • Perform rapid analysis studies, hand calculations, and lightweight beam and shell finite element models to guide design trades, delivering updated models and results within 24–48 hours as configurations evolve.
  • Perform static, dynamic, stability, and damage-tolerance analyses for metallic and composite primary and secondary structures; evaluate and optimize flight and ground systems for structural loads, vibration modes, and deflections; and produce documented margin and load reports for qualification testing and regulatory artifacts.
  • Define pre-test predictions, instrumentation plans, and post-test correlation workflows; tune models to test data and drive agreement to target tolerances, such as stiffness and key stress results within approximately 5% for validated modes and load paths.
  • Lead root-cause investigations for test and field failures, generate corrective design changes, and work with manufacturing, design, reliability, and test teams to close actions and update inspection criteria.
  • Collaborate daily with design, systems, reliability, test, and flight operations; create and document standardized in-house finite element tools, verification checklists, and model-release processes; and mentor 3–5 contributors who feed into the Global Finite Element Model.
  • Support flight-test campaigns and field remediation events on-site, execute rapid test fixes, prioritize fleet-impacting issues to minimize downtime and preserve flight schedules, resolve test issues within hours, and provide corrective action direction for issues found in qualification testing.
  • Drive measurable outcomes including reduced product-level cost per delivery, an appropriate Global Finite Element Model release cadence, fewer structural repeat failures across the fleet, mass or margin improvements from design trades, and model-to-test correlation metrics.

About the company

Zipline builds and operates autonomous drone delivery networks for retailers, restaurants and healthcare systems that need to move products without road traffic. Its electric aircraft carry food, prescriptions and other supplies from partner sites or distribution hubs to customers and health facilities. The company combines aircraft, charging equipment and delivery software with flight operations, so partners buy a logistics service rather than manage their own drones. Merchants use its ordering and tracking tools to reach customers, while governments and health systems contract for medical supply delivery. Zipline was founded in 2014 and has its headquarters in South San Francisco, California.

What believers are saying

  • Growth teams have fresh funding: Zipline raised over $600 million in January 2026 to expand delivery operations.
  • Consumer distribution is widening: Zipline announced Uber Eats integration in August 2026, with first deliveries planned later that year.
  • Operations extend beyond pilots: Zipline reported over 2.7 million completed deliveries across four continents in August 2026.

What critics are saying

  • New Texas scale is pending: Zipline's September 2026 five-metro proposal remains under FAA environmental review.
  • Bulk deliveries face a weight ceiling: Zipline's proposed Texas P2 aircraft have an eight-pound payload limit.
  • Field testing disrupts regular hours: Zipline's Esparto operator posting requires nights, weekends and occasional regional travel.

What makes Zipline unique

  • Its delivery pod steers itself: Zipline lowers an autonomous robot on a tether while the larger aircraft stays overhead.
  • Different docks share capacity: Zipline's P2 aircraft fly between docks and recharge before taking the next delivery.
  • Public health is a core customer: Zipline runs Rwanda's national blood-delivery network alongside its US consumer service.

Zipline secures 8-year Côte d'Ivoire deal to serve 12M people with drone delivery

US drone logistics company Zipline will expand operations in Côte d'Ivoire, building nine additional facilities to complement its existing site operational since 2023. The expansion aims to serve 12 million people, roughly a third of the Ivorian population, over the next eight years. During its three-year pilot programme, Zipline delivered nearly 4 million medical products — primarily vaccines and blood — to more than 200 healthcare centres in a region northwest of Abidjan. The Ivorian government will cover operating costs including pharmacy-grade warehousing, cold chain management, digital tracking, and delivery for eight years. Zipline expects the government to achieve a three-fold return on its investment, though the company declined to disclose the exact financial terms. The deal represents growing African government adoption of drone technology for delivering social services to hard-to-reach areas.
